If he can, why not you?

First of all TED.com.

OK, this young man studied electricity and circuits from old text books and built a windmill out of spare parts from the town dump. His family has the most reliable electricity for mile and miles. Now villagers line up at his door to charge their mobile phones, and even pay a small fee. Brilliant, simple, possible.…

The Meal of Tomorrow

In 10 years I could be anywhere but let's just say the Pacific northwest. I'm sitting down to dinner on a summer evening with my wife (any perhaps kids) as the sun sets. We have a salad with greens grown on the premises, cheese from the guy with goats across town, and a sunflower oil and balsamic vinegarette produced by the local winery. And wine. The chicken will be from our twice monthly CSA delivery from the local chicken farmer (so we don't have to raise and butcher our own, they also sell… Continue

Raised Bed for Hire

I posted an ad on craigslist.org in my area offering to construct a raised garden bed. The tools and supplies are basic and cheap dirt can be easily amended. People would buy the materials and I will meet with them, check out their space and available resources, and help them plan a garden space. I'm not charging any money for this service, instead I'm seeking a trade for my efforts. There's several good space planners out there (… Continue

Northern California

Living in the United States this question is different than it might be if I lived in a less developed place. I have potable water on demand, 4 grocery stores within a two mile walk, and a reliable mail service that delivers the vegetable seeds I order online. Oh, and I have a job to pay for most of this stuff. But lots of people in my town don't have jobs, or houses, and if they do have a job it isn't usually that great. A major provider of food security to the impoverished locally is the Food… Continue

Truth

LEARN 1

Just paying my rent I live on more than $2 a day, some days I spend that

on coffee refills (but I bring my own cup). But that's not what I

really want to comment on.

Going to where the problem and talking to the people that have the

problem are the necessary conditions to developing transparent

technologies that are easily understood by end users and stimulate

additional innovation. And you don't have to go that far to make a

difference, I… Continue

"I love that you've brought this to attention. An extensive database of uncommon but resistant and hardy plants/foods could be developed and organized by climate. Ease of growth and processing should also be taken in to account. I will try to…"

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
