Food Security in Buffalo

Recently, I blogged about resilience. All communities should have a resilience plan in place. They should also be educating their students about resilience. But what about food…

Choice: How can We Educate Buffalo Students on Resilience?

This week, I did a post on Resilience Education. I did some further digging about Buffalo’s resilience plan. It turns out there isn’t one, at least not one that is on the Web. Being one of the snow capitals of the

world, one would think we would have a system in place to educate others on

resilience. The closest I got was the Buffalo Emergency Management site, which

resilience should be a part of. (…

Choice: Resilience Education

Inner city students and families make up a large portion of the 80% urban population. That percentage is staggering now, but continues to raise, yearly. While city dwellers seem to use less energy than their suburban neighbors, they influence tipping points because of their large numbers and real estate. This is where resilience education comes in. With 80% of our current students becoming city dwellers, we have to start the discussion, now.…

Life in 2020

It’s hard to imagine where I’ll be in 2020. Unfortunately, my whereabouts are determined by my husband’s job placement. I can really get a job anywhere in education, and have always been able to. However, I can dream for now, can’t I?

I would love to work with youth by creating a project that unites youth with local businesses and experts, through after-school projects. Students will have a say in the types of offerings. Perhaps I live in the city during the…

James O'Brien and Brooklyn Community Arts and Media High School

I’m really inspired by people who start up schools. My thing is educational choice. I don’t believe that all students fit into one mold. Students are more likely to learn through their strengths. Parents and students need educational choices.

I can’t find much on James O’Brien, other than his involvement with Brooklyn Community Arts and Media High…

Social Innovation: "Make it inexpensive."

"Make it inexpensive. My friend Paul Polak has

adapted a famous quote to the following: “Affordability isn’t

everything, it’s the only thing” and there’s a lot of truth in that.

When you are designing for people who are earning just one or two

dollars a day, you need to keep things as cheap as you can and then

make it even cheaper!"

I don't think that this is true only for the people you are servicing, but also addressing your…

A Future for Educated Girls in Afghanistan

It’s hard to imagine what life would be like in 2020 for girls that don’t enjoy the freedoms I experience everyday. My hope is that they will be able to have the same freedoms to read, write, and express their thoughts as I have. The only possible path I see to this result is a balanced

education that promotes equality, celebrates different cultures, and empowers

young people to take a stand against the unfortunate circ**stances in the

world.…

Pakistan: Why Education Can Make a Difference

Recently, I read about Naseeba, a 25-year old mother from Pakistan who ran away from her abusive husband who beat her daily. In August 2009, a…

"I love that you've brought this to attention. An extensive database of uncommon but resistant and hardy plants/foods could be developed and organized by climate. Ease of growth and processing should also be taken in to account. I will try to…"

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

It is 7'oclock, I was late home from work due to an assignment that i wanted to get ahead on. By the time I get home I am feeling extremley tired and I cannot be bothered to make a proper meal. All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
