SO WHATS YOUR COST

I dont know if anyone here has seen the doc**ental/movie but it is very interesting and tells a lot about how different cultures see each other.

I saw it a few days ago and was kind of struck by the powerful message: THE MEDIA POWER IS STRONG! I was struck by the idea of using the media as a powerful ally, funds and a strategy are needed.

LIFESAVER JERRYCAN

I dont know if someone already posted this but well anyways here it is.

Micheal Pritchard has invented the unthinkable, a water filter system that turns dirty water into 100 percent drinkable water. ‘LIFESAVER jerrycan AID’ will process up to 15,000 litres of clean sterile drinking water. Children need at least 2 litres of water each day to survive. One LIFESAVER jerrycan can produce 20,000 litres of

drinking water. This means that one…

ZENITH SOLAR

The concept of Concentrated Photovoltaic (CPV) systems is to use low

cost optics to increase the light incident onto the very high

efficiency semiconductor solar cell material, thus reducing overall

cost of the system while increasing energy output.

The concentration factor, denoted by X, is a measure of the increased light intensity on the semiconductor cell. X equals

approximately the area of the optic collector divided by area of the

semiconductor solar… Continue

WAVES

Oyster System

Áquamarine Power made plans to install a new type of wave power system in the seabed of Orkney Island coasts. The system utilizes an on-shore base that is much easier to maintain than standard wave power designs, and the system is capable of

operating at shallow depths, making it more consistent than systems

that operate far out at sea. Each unit is capable of producing

300-600kw of electricity, so a commercial farm of ten units could

provide clean energy… Continue

EARTH HOUR

UN headquarters in Geneva and all its facilities around the world turn off their lights at the "Earth Hour", as proof of their commitment to finding solutions to climate change.

"Turning off nonessential lights people will participate for an hour in a symbolic example that can serve to inspire the change we so urgently need," Ban said. Earth Hour is an initiative of the World Forum for Nature (WWF) in which this Saturday at 20:30 local time about six thousand cities in 125… Continue

All Mexican BEACHES CLEAN

The Cofepris reported that all beaches are suitable for recreation and tourism, as found under the established parameters in measuring the quality of seawater, but warned that may be contaminated by waste discharges and other activities. In the pre-holiday report published Saturday on its Web site, said that according to the last sampling on the quality of seawater up in 14 coastal states, the beaches are below the new standard of measurement of 200 enterococci per 100 milliliters. The Federal… Continue

Simple, you can do it.

Two months ago I saw my teacher drinking water when I saw something strange: I could swear that water bottle was the one he bought like a year ago! So I asked him. He said that he was trying to use less plastic by reusing the water bottle he had bought, a year and three months ago. Its pretty simple and it can start quite the movement. All of his family uses the same water bottles, and some of his friends do too! Now all of my family is using the same bottles we bought that same day. Its small… Continue

Eco Bycicles

ECOBICI is the new urban individual transport, it is part of the public transport network in Mexico City, preferable for short trips, the ECOBICI is the proof that Mexico is also going onwards, trying to solve the ecological crisis. Right now it is kind of expensive thanks to the fact that its 300 pesos per 30 minutes. What does it involve? You can rent bycicles at certain stations and go through the streets, obviously folloewing certain rules, like not going against the flow of cars, etc.… Continue

MFC

MFCs

A microbial fuel cell (MFC) converts chemical energy, available in a bio-convertible substrate (meaning some sort of organic matter), directly into electricity. To achieve this,

bacteria are used as a catalyst to convert substrate into electrons.

Bacteria are very small organisms which can convert a huge…

BEER BATTERY

Electricity from beer? It may sound like a farfetched idea but a partnership between Foster’s Brewery and the University of Queensland in Australia and the University of Ghent in Belgium has produced it. The

"beer battery," is actually a microbial fuel cell (MFC). The fuel cell

uses sugar-consuming bacteria to generate power from waste water

produced in the brewing process. The bacteria consume the organic

matter in the brewery’s waste water, breaking…

The eco toilet

Designed by Peter Morgan of Zimbabwe for African conditions, the ArborLoo is the simplest of all eco toilets, a revolutionary approach

that views human excreta as resources to be utilized rather than waste

to be avoided. A pit measuring 80 centimetres deep and 60 centimetres

wide is dug, dry leaves are added to the bottom and a concrete slab is

placed over the opening. After each use, a cup of soil and wood ash

mixture is added to encourage…

Brazil moving towards the future.

Flexible fuel vehicles (FFVs) are designed to run on gasoline or a blend of up to 85% ethanol (E85). Except for a few engine and fuel system modifications, they are identical to gasoline-only models. FFVs experience no loss in performance when operating on E85. However,

since a gallon of ethanol contains less energy than a gallon of

gasoline, FFVs typically get about 20-30% fewer miles per gallon

when fueled with E85. They run on gasoline, alcohol or any…

My dad has a farm that is three hours away from the city. Next to him a man raises cows and pigs. My dad keeps complaining about how expensive a good and efficient fertilizer can be, his neighbor keeps complaining about how they rip him off in the local market but where else can he buy food for his animals. The solution was so simple I laughed. Currently my dad trades his leftover grain for manure with his neighbor. Who said a good old… Continue

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More
