Evoke Manifesto

I think the main goals of the evoke website is to create social entrepreneurs out of ordinary people and euip them with the necessary skills to make a difference with regard to the social problems we face on a global scale. The members of evoke are predominantly ordinary citizens with a storng social concious who want to make an impact in the lives of the less fortunate. I think to be ethical as an evoke agent you have to be evironmentally concious in any design or idea you have come…

Learn 10

I have really enjoyed participating in the last 10 week's of the evoke game. I do think however, that there are a number of alterations that could be made. I don't like how wach week, the week's challenge is divided into a learn, act and imagine mission, I think that each week there should just any three tasks, as it becomes slightly repetitive at times, especially with regard to the imagine task.

I think the next evoke should be played on a global level by all willing…

Design an emergency call to action for a NON-medical community.

I think the work that Ember did is of great significance. An emergency call to action for a non-medical community that I would use, would be to get together a group of hygienists and nutritionist to give advice on simple methods of how to obstain from contracting the epidemic and what food and liquids should be consumed to built up your immune system making you less susceptible to the pandemic. I would use Embers idea of the net as a medium of communication to people across the globe. There…

The 5 secrets of Communication

Personally, I think that the most important of the five secrets of crisis networking, is managing panic. The government and the media play a siginifcant role in the way that panic amongst the people is managed when any one georgraphical location is experiencing a crisis. There are a number of guidelines that should be adhered to by media institutions that inform the people about a crisis to ensure that their response is not one of panic. These are accordingly, is gaining public trust. If people… Continue

What will you pass on?

I think the most important knowledge that I could impart on the world's future generations would be, dont undersestimate the power of the INDIVIDUAL.

Become a Guardian of a Indigenous Secret

In line with my learn post, an indigenous secret which I would like to guard would be along the lines of doc**enting all traditional medicine healing practices and curative plants. Due to time limitations, I have not been able to yet complete this physical object which will serve as the vessel of my traditional secret. If I was to build something to preserve this secret, I think it would be along the lines of the Dazu Rock Cavings in China, I would engrave the secret into rock slabs, which… Continue

Indigenous Knowldege Sucess Story

For this week's learn mission, I chose to talk about a indigenous knowledge success story in Oaxaga Mexico. After bitter struggles, between physicians and traditional medicinal women, joint meetings were held in which plans for collaboration were set up. As a result, the indigenous knowledge of these Mexican women of curative plants, and traditional practices have been catalogued. Furthermore, the traditional medicine women have been…

New Resilent City

My new resilient city in 2020, would have a combination of resilient features. It would be completely self sufficient, with vegeratble gardens that ensure the food security of the wh*** city, it would rely completely on alternative forms of energy such as solar panels and wind energy, would have water purifying systems as well as adequate sanitation and health services. Furthermore, if as it is in an earthquake zone, all the buoldingd will be specially reinforced.

City who is making plans for Urban Resiliance?

I was disapointed to find that for this week's act mission, I failed to find any plans underway to increase Grahamstown's urban resiliance. Therefore I decided to focus on the Mascar city development which is underway in Abu Dhabi. This project aims to develope a "green city" which will be completed in approximately eight years time and will utilise solar panel technology water treatment systems, nonpolluting underground light rail, and a small research university operated in conjunction…

Sharing Information in a Crisis

I am currently, living in Grahamstown, South Africa. Over the last four years, Grahamstown has seen a large increase in the size of the location: an informal settlement on the outskirts of the town. Informal settlements or are dense settlements comprising communities housed in self constructed shelters under conditions of informal or traditional land tenure. They are common features of developing countries and are typically the product of an urgent need for shelter by the urban poor. As such… Continue

Life for Woman in 2020

I hope by 2020 that concerted efforts to curb gender euality between males and females will have been achieved on a global scale. This will have to be achieved by introducing national and international legislation which protects genedr equality. For example in South Africa, with the advent of our constitutional democracy, equality was entrenched in our bill of rights as one of the most important human right values. However along with legislation is the need to ensure that gender quality is… Continue

One way to empower one woman.

As a young teenager, I used to teach my domestic worker's daughers how to read and write in English. I remember devising all sort od exercise worksheets to improve their command of the english language. I used to also teach them maths, and make them maths worksheets which dealt with basic maths concepts. In this way, I think I have already achieved this week's act task. I think educcation remains a vital key to woman's empowerment as it open's the door to opportunity.

However,…

LEARN to empower woman.

As well all know for this week's learn mission we had to track womanwatch and choose a story from the newsfeed. I choose a story about the work UNICEF has been doing in Afghanistan. The middle East remains one of the areas across the globe with the must uequal forms of gender equality. UNICEF in collaboration with YICC have created a girls’ volleyball, hockey and football team – the latter has 16 members and is affiliated with the Afghanistan Football Federation – with the goal of engaging… Continue

BREAKING NEWS

BREAKING NEWS.....the world's form of currency as we know it, is no longer. Today in 2020 the barter system has come to stand as the alternative currency exchange transaction, and is being used globally.

Bartering is a medium in which goods or services are directly exchanged for other goods and/or services without a medium of exchange, such as money. As a rseult, the world has become a much more community based place.A simple example would be the transaction of…

Use an exchange System you have never used before

Make a real economic transaction this week using a currency, platform or exchange system you've NEVER used before. Tell a story about your experience. What ideas does it give you for sparking the future of money?

For this mission I looked at the Dancing Rabbit eco-village in Missisouri, which contains a community of people geared to sustaiable and eco-friendly living. They work on a number of different projects and with regards to food for the community operate an alternative…

What creative solution do you think will make the biggest change in how we use money in the future?

I think the creative solution that will make the biggest change in how we use money is the idea postulated by the Futurist Douglas Rushkoff is trying to convince Craigslist's Craig Newmark to create “craigbucks.” He thinks it's the obvious next step in the evolution of money. “People could buy and sell things exclusively on Craigslist using craigbucks." This kind of community money is not unheard of and an example of this idea in practice can be seen with the QQ currency which was used in China… Continue

World Water Day 2020

It's World Water day and it's the year 2020, and as usual the world's longest toilet line is at work. This idea has become a symbol for the campaign on clean and fresh water and sanitation and is held annually, with each year achieving an increase in numbers. This years longest toilet line queue is the biggest after a ruthless round of campaigns trying to increase the world's awareness of the water crisis, and its WORKED, we have beaten the guiness book of records!

ALLIANCE WITH A WATER VISIONARY

For this week's Act mission I followed the work of the Center for Community and Organization Development (CCODE) in Malawi. Their goal is to provide financial and technical support to introduce household eco-sanitation facilities to Malawi slums and informal settlements. At the same time Global Water Challenge is supporting CCODE’s program to provide loans

to households for eco-sanitation facilities in Malawi's capital city, Lilongwe and surrounding areas. In addition, women… Continue

PLAYPUMP IN MALAWI

All though this was the example given by the Evoke game, it was really close to home as I live in Malawi and the playpump which the article talks about is installed in Nkudzi bay village, on the lake, very close to my family home. I actually used this playpump example for my first learn mission on social innovation, as I thought it pointed to an adequate example of how to innovate on existing platforms.

I think another great example of how to change the world water crisis is the… Continue

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. It is 7'oclock, I was late home from work due to an assignment that i wanted to get ahead on. By the time I get home I am feeling extremley tired and I cannot be bothered to make a proper meal. I walk to the fridge and open it to see what there is for me to eat. All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
