LEARN10 - New topics for Season 3

After ten exciting and exploring weeks we have come to an end of EVOKEs´ Season 2. Now it is up to us to suggest challenges and social problems to face for Season 3.

LEARN9 - The Importance of Crisis Communication

This week we had to investigate the five secrets of Crisis Communication. When it comes to a pandemic communication plays a decisive role to ensure public security. Therefore the Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard had prepared the five most important communication issues to handle such situations:

- Coming to Terms with Uncertainty

- Covering Risk

- Outbreak Communication

- Managing Panic in a Pandemic

- People’s reactions

In my opinion the issue to…

LERN7- A future crisis

One of the biggest drivers of future crisis is known as the rapid growth of urban populations all over the world. Especially in developing countries this fast-paced trend will lead to urban slums. A studyof UN HABITAT estimates that by 2050, over 5 billion people will be living in cities, with an average of 30% living in slums. The development of slums is mostly accompanied by a lack access of clean water…

LEARN 5 - The future of money

This week it´s all about money and of course its future!

In times of debt crisis and currency wars our world community has to face several problems. Europe and the US are struggling with over-indeptedness while the United Arab Emirates are flushed with oil money. Moreover there are about 3 billion people currently live on less than $2 a day. Consequently the call for a global currency solution is growing louder and louder! Which solution will make the biggest change in how we use money…

LEARN4 - Thea city of water and gardens.

This week I would like to introduce a fantastic clean water project that inspired me a lot!

Our journey leads us to Singapore - the smallest of Asia’s tiger states. With its immense economic growth of about 4.5 percent per year, its population of 4.5 million people is predicted to grow soon to about 7 million, what means a rice of more than 150%.

So the question came up how to manage the supply of clean and fresh water for its inhabitants by using its limited natural…

I just have found an interesting electricity project called "Micro hydropower". This small-scale hydro powerplant is one of the most environmentally caretaking energy conversion option available. Unlike large-scale hydro power, it does not attempt to interfere significantly with river flows and in my opinion a very sustainable and easy way to provide electricity in developing countries.

At…

With the sunny days in April this year the biking season has reopened after the cold winter. And I really like bicycle tours! I also love my smart phone, an HTC desire HD - my loyal companion which optimises my everyday life! And so my story begins:

On May, 1st some friends and I wanted to make a nice bicycle tour along the Wöhrder See, through the Zerzabelshorster Forst and back to our starting point. We were well prepared - the bikes were ready, Picknick food packed and a biking app…

In my opinion one of the biggest challenges to food security in our local community is child poverty. One child in four in Nuremberg depends on social transfer benefit payments and every third child suffers from poverty at all.

As one of the most powerless groups in society, children often bear the physical and emotional costs of poverty. This problem manifests itself in bad living conditions like bad housing conditions, frequent unemployment and malnutrition of children.

Due…

My favorite secret is the following one:

Do the hard work needed to find a simple solution. As Leonardo da Vinci said, “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication”—and it is the key to this type of design work.

In my opinion this secret matches to most innovative creations - knowing how things are done is the key to New solutions! Especially when some steps are difficult or uncomfortable to handle. Most innovations are based on problems or gaps in the… Continue

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
