Thanksgiving 2020

Our holiday will be created with a combination of saving and using more efficient renewable resources of energy. Our home will be designed to utilize natural lighting with windows placed strategically to allow cooling throughout without the use of energy and instead by openning windows. We will spend the day cooking, but the source of energy will come from our own waste (…

Okay,

So, like many people, I lack certain scientific and engineering knowledge to actually implement an idea - but I had an idea and I'm curious what everyone thinks.

The human body emits thermal energy, and through movmement creates kinetic energy. Okay, what about a wireless keyboard harnessing the kinetic and thermal energy from human touch and pressure to hit each key, or wii controllers relying more on kinetic energy (since they require a bit of movement…

Food in 2020 ...

This should be easy .. I love food .. and I think about future meals all the time :)

In the future, several neighbors and I will sit down to a meal that we made together. We will eat outside, on a grassy knoll and the weather will be warm with a light breeze. Each of us will have contributed different fruits, vegetables, and grains from our personal and community gardens. The meal will be vegan and organic. We will eat falafel wraps with fresh… Continue

Berkeley, California

Issue:
Large scale agriculture in California at times results in abuse of immigrant workers by providing generally low-paying, insecure and poor working conditions, as well as resulting in poor health of workers. Alternatively, small scale local agriculture such as community gardening projects are expensive and legally regulated. This makes it difficult for local…

In 2020...

Ideally, I will have prioritized the issues of violence that I find myself most capable to influence. Through the Peace Corps or Mercy Corps or other non-profit organization, or through funded research, I will have traveled to places of violence to conduct research first hand. From my research and experiences, I will have formulated a strong thesis for methods to promote peace in my chosen issue of violence. Continuing my research through a Masters…

Okay,

I chose Karen Doyle Grossman, Vice President, Social Innovations at Mercy Corps for a few reasons.

First, because of her knowledge about social innovation in fragile states, risks and opportunities, and how to approach development in these countries.

Second, because of my interest in Haiti in terms of state development and the issues they face in getting back on track and the opportunities they face to…

"Listen to the right people. Okay, so you probably don’t know what it’s like to carry fifty pounds of firewood on your head. Well, don’t pretend that you do. Talk to someone who has done it. I believe that the key to innovation in international development is truly understanding the problem, and using your imagination is… Continue

"I love that you've brought this to attention. An extensive database of uncommon but resistant and hardy plants/foods could be developed and organized by climate. Ease of growth and processing should also be taken in to account. I will try to…"

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
