There are currently more people living on this planet, than there have ever been humans on this earth. Think about it. Our global population is larger than all our previous generations
COMBINED! Overpopulation is of growing concern. Population densities are increasing, hand in hand with poverty and hunger. China alone is responsible for 1.4 billion of the 6 billion people on this planet.
There is only one true solution though. Education. And not just any education,…

Before I begin, I'd just like to mention that throughout this venture, I worked in collaboration (my favorite EVOKE power!) with
Reid Falconer, a fellow agent! I'm posting the blog seeing that there's no way of posting it together. All in all it was a pleasure to work with him once again!
Soil For Life is a Cape Town based NGO which teaches people to grow their own food. Soil For…

What a great mission! There were so many ideas circulating through my mind when I read the brief. I'd even go as far as saying this imagine is my favorite yet! My 2020 World Water Day will be one people will remember for centuries! World Water Day will make international headlines: the awareness raised will be massive!
I would start off by giving WWD a great "image". I plan on advertising the importance of WWD 3 weeks before the phenomenal day itself. The plan is to portray…

For centuries, South Africa has been rich in indigenous knowledge. Stretching back as far as the times of the Khoi, we have been well endowed with traditional findings. The Buchu Herb is one such gem.
The Buchu Herb (formally known as Barosma Betulina) has therapeutic uses. This herb is part of our cultural heritage from the San and Khoi people, some of our first ever ancestors. The power of this plant has been evident "throughout the ages". The plant is still used today by…

When reading the information for this task, something immediately jumped to mind: a solar cooker I had built just a few months back. I set about repairing and upgrading it so that it…

The world of today, has seen the rise of an intricate and highly complex system of value and money. What happened to trading and bartering? What happened to those simple transactions where there was no debt, no money, and most of all, no problems! Money is an incurable disease. Since the 1900's country's like the USA have been generating astronomical amounts of debt! It's no longer millions, or billions, yet trillions. No country in Europe can even manage to "break even". No matter how strong…

It's September 2018 and the third African Global Issues conference is being hosted in the mother city, Cape Town. It's a two week program which takes place at CTICC (Cape Town International Convention Center). CTICC is an amazing venue fully capable of hosting such an event. The conference runs for two weeks, and covers most of the many issues that Africa faces. This event educates and helps further research. Such an event, can be powered by Wind Power.
Cape Town receives a…

For years now, countries around the world have been exploring renewable sources of energy! The most prominent renewable energy sources are solar power, wind power and hydro power. Cape Town has ocean, sun and wind! It was only a matter of time before at least one of these renewable energy sources would be explored.
In May 2006, The City of Cape Town signed a 20-year agreement to buy electricity from the Darlington Wind Farm. This has certainly paved the way for an…

In the world of today, it is not uncommon to hear of famine and drought. Africa and Australia are no strangers to these two phenomena. For me there is only one real explanation: a lack of water which is the result of a lack of rain. For years now, climatologists have researched and experimented with weather modification. A process which has become distinctly more advanced over the last decade is known as Cloud Seeding.…

It is widely known that wise quotes and proverbs teach us important
things in life. I believe that motivating words of wisdom can have a
strong impact on people. They can get people going, whether they are
struggling to start something or even continue. Sometimes it takes
something very small to trigger that determination in people.
Seeing that this week's quest has to do with motivation, I'm going to
post motivational quotes and proverbs here daily for the…

The sheer number of people facing extreme hunger is staggering. To overcome this will be one of the greatest challenges to be faced. The best we can do is help those we can. Together, through collaboration and cooperation the end goal of eradicating world hunger can be achieved. The goal is definitely long term. There are just too many people to help to solve this huge crisis overnight.
What we need to do is take steps in the right direction. Many farmers in Africa have…

In ten years time, I see myself as a highly influential politician who is recognized as a key social innovator. I will be underway with community projects in South Africa when the Tokyo food crisis strikes. I will of course, give the crisis my full attention and take what I have learned from national work, and apply it at a serious international level.
By 2020, I will have partnered with many vital social innovators and organisations. Together with the those who I work…

The innovator I have chosen to shadow is Derek Lomas (via twitter & email). Derek founded the Playpower Foundation in 2008, which aims at developing affordable, effective and fun electronic learning games. These games look to target under-privileged children from around the world. Playpower is working with developers, designers, NGO's, academics and businesses to participate in the research. Together they hope to develop and distribute these games to those who really need…

Listening and understanding what people say, is the best way of learning. Communicating with those who know how is definitely one of the most successful ways of learning. People who have already done something, have the knowledge and first hand experience.
