I'm currently fifteen in 2011 and will be one-hundred years old in 2096. The indigenous knowledge I will spread is to keep your life local. Buy local food and goods, use local services, go to local schools and avoid big corporations. By doing this one benefits their own community greatly. Money circulates and jobs are available for local people. This is how towns, cities and countries can sustain themselves. It is also important on a larger scale. For instance, hardly any products are made…

The traditional medicine women of Mexico have had "bitter struggles with official associations of physicians, but have come up with a solution. They have formed meetings and collaboration groups to help benefit indigenous women. "Their involvement has been a key factor in cataloguing the plants, herbs, and practices, and in promoting the conservation and availability of curative products and practices". An overall health program has also been created with the help of UNICEF, the National…

Ojai has turned away from tourism to resilience. The Soule Park Golf Course has been turned into two Resilience Shelters and a huge farmer's market that has replaced the previously small one. The Ojai Valley Country Club has been tore down to make way for a Resilient Medical Center, used as a hospital, but specifically for times of emergency. Lastly a number of local organic farms have sprouted up around Ojai, increasing the amount of local food and the ability for Ojai to…

Ushahidi would be a great tool for the people of Ojai. Forest fires, earthquakes and floods have been somewhat frequent over the last ten years. Floods have demolished people's house and blocked all roads going into and out of Ojai. This is a great example of how Ushahidi could be used in Ojai. When one's house is flooded, they can send out an SMS message to Ushahidi, so either someone nearby or the fire department can instantly assist…

For my water visionary I chose an association rather than a single person. Ashoka Fellows is a "global association of the world’s leading social entrepreneurs". (See my ACT 1 blog post) In terms of water innovation, Ashoka is "convening groups of leading social entrepreneurs to combine experiences, identify underlying insights and trends in their innovative solutions, and hatch new actions based on the results". It has brought 4 groups together, with a total of 33 members. They have created…

As a huge fan of soccer, I recently decided to start playing Fifa 11, the most recent soccer video game from EA Sports. Within Fifa 11 is an online add-on called Ultimate Team, where you can create a dream team of your favorite players, but to attain chemistry within the team, one must chose similarities between all players. Within the game their is an auction house, where players put their own players and consumables up for auction. The currency used are called coins and it is a new virtual…

On May 4, 2011, UN officials stressed the need for participation of women in democracies and decision making. Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon states that "while women’s political participation improves democracy, the reverse is also true: democracy is an incubator for gender equality". Female participation in democracy will provide "public space for discussion and women's empowerment', "enable women's groups to mobilize and help women "realize their political, civil , economic and social…
