Harnessing Physical Power

I believe one of the resources we seldom tap in to in urban life is our own physical strength. No, I don't mean that we need to buff up and start pulling carts and wagons. I think that as technology advances, we are so quick to have things done for us the easy way. With an over-focus on efficiency, sometimes we forget about what we are forfeiting.

There is not one specific invention or design I would suggest for ACT1. I think we just need to think of ways to harness our physical… Continue

Ushahidi

The biggest concern over here in Los Angeles would have to be an earthquake. There have been a few smaller ones the past few years, but if a stronger magnitude earthquake were to hit, it is very difficult to tell what buildings will stay standing, and how fast help can get to those who need it the most.

Something like Ushahidi would be a very powerful tool to have in such an emergency. Victims could use it to reach out for help. What I wonder though is if the program is ready to… Continue

Printing Solar Panels

Found this article. Seems rather awesome, but I wonder how long it will take for it to be cheap enough so everyone can use it. So often we find ourselves with great technology, but it's only accessible to those with lots of money.

Food Security

So many ethnic enclaves in Los Angeles suffer from a lack of access to healthy food. Yes, the communities can get food, but it is often fast food. How could you not go for fast food, when fast food is everywhere on the streets?

Not only that, but markets with access to a variety of fruits and vegetables do not always want to go in to poorer neighborhoods. While we need to focus on getting food to our communities, we also need to make sure WHAT food we are providing them access to.

LEARN1

  1. Problems are not always obvious from afar
Coming from a minority community, I can find a lot of truth in this statement. To really enact change, we have to be more involved in the communities we are trying to help. It's so easy to act without really spending time to understand the background, culture, history, and traditions of those we are trying to help.

"I love that you've brought this to attention. An extensive database of uncommon but resistant and hardy plants/foods could be developed and organized by climate. Ease of growth and processing should also be taken in to account. I will try to…"

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
