We're becoming Psychic aren't we?

Who hasn't had a thought about someone and then suddenly received a phone call from that person? I don't think that anyone has the ability to read minds at least not yet, and maybe we just remember the unique times and forget the 200 other times that nothing happened.

as a sort of experiment, post a brief story of when you thought you have been psychic

BOSTON -- Better prepaired then I had though

Before this weeks homework assignment I thought that Boston was not well prepared, in light of events like this. What caused this calamity was poor leadership. Knowing that the snow storm was due it was recommended that schools & businesses close early. By the time the snow hit the main roads of the city were already in gridlock. My mom was caught in traffic for seven hours, on a route that normally… Continue

Ushahidi and School Violence

The school that I attend in Boston MA, is a very friendly and peaceful--it is hard to image that anything like what happened at Columbine is even remotely possible. However, it is always better to be over prepared.

I could see Ushahidi being used to inform students of possible threats in a crisis situation. Imagine if during Columbine, students were able to inform each other and the police where the attackers where, many more lives would have been saved.

...this isn't a bad… Continue

Women in the year 2020

In the year 2020, women are not only treated equally they are valued and thanked everyday. It got pretty bad around 2014, the destruction of the environment, the rise of violence in cities, increased levels of hunger and infant mortality rates. If women had not stepped forward and taught us to nurture and care for our planet I doubt we would have made it to 2020.

Many people look to programs like …

Many Roads to Salvation

I spent the past 20 minutes looking over the many projects on Global Giving trying to decide which project was the best to support. I was trying to decide between supporting education or local farming projects. I realized after a while that all of these projects are worth supporting. How could I choose one out of the hundreds?

I don't have any money to donate unfortunately :( but I will do my best to promote sites like these--I will keep you all posted.

Farewell, and Gods Speed

I was just informed as many of you were that one of our own Claude Raines: an Evoke agent from the begining, a member of SEED, an infantry marine, and a really good friend, is being deployed back to Afghanistan.

Although progress has been made towards a brighter future for Afghanistan, much is still required.

I think it would nice if other agents were willing, post a farewell note here for… Continue

No issue in particular

I never give much thought to this miss treatment of women. In my circles of friends and in my class in society I rarely hear about rape or the general degradation of women. I was just reading on the UN women watch site about the horrific things that women have to face. It really makes my stomach turn, and not even the tales of rape and genitalia discouragement but also the seemingly benign things like men taking credit for a… Continue

Value as Sound

If you don't know, I go to art school and yesturday we had a guest speaker, Hoon Kim. Hoon Kim is a Korean graphic designer who does amazing work using sight and sound to display information. One of the works that he presented in his talk was a new system to depict value using sound and color. The system is based on current US currency but I can easily imagine it representing the credit. Whenever a transaction is made a series of tones is created that represent the value of the purchase or sale… Continue

The Issue with Third Rate Wealth

While reading the Count of Monte Cristo by Alexander Dumas I came across an interesting section. The immeasurably wealthy Count of Monte Cristo is talking to Danglars the chief banker of Paris. The count remarks that while Dangars fortune is great it consists entirely of third rate wealth and thus it is actually worth half of what it is estimated. Humbled, Danglars demands for the count to explain, and of course he does.

The count explains his theory of wealth as thus;

"I make… Continue

Time For Knowledge

So I have been reading all of your act5 posts with great interest, my favorite was Giuseppe's Wood For Money. I liked the relationship that his family developed with a neighbor--both parties benefiting from the exchange. I though about how I could form a relationship like that and then one day I realized that I already had. I currently am interning with a local glass artists named… Continue

Design to the Rescue

Hi all

I recently had the opportunity to sit down with Niels LaWhite, chief scientist for Second Wind and ask him a few questions about Wind Energy. I was hoping that he would give me some guidance with my project, instead he opened my eyes to the current wind energy situation in America and how I can help.

One thing that Niels told me which I found very… Continue

Anything is possible

My friend is going to Las Vegas this weekend and she just sent me a photograph from the airplane. The picture shows the landscape from the window as she flies thousands of feet over the ground at a couple hundred miles an hour. The other day I was speaking to Nick Heyming over the web. I was struck by the awe inspiring feat that was taking place--just like I am struck right now when I look at the photo from the plane.

Think about how incredible both of those acts are! simply amazing.… Continue

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

It is 7'oclock, I was late home from work due to an assignment that i wanted to get ahead on. By the time I get home I am feeling extremley tired and I cannot be bothered to make a proper meal. I walk to the fridge and open it to see what there is for me to eat. All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
