Many Roads to Salvation

I spent the past 20 minutes looking over the many projects on Global Giving trying to decide which project was the best to support. I was trying to decide between supporting education or local farming projects. I realized after a while that all of these projects are worth supporting. How could I choose one out of the hundreds?

I don't have any money to donate unfortunately :( but I will do my best to promote sites like these--I will keep you all posted.

Farewell, and Gods Speed

I was just informed as many of you were that one of our own Claude Raines: an Evoke agent from the begining, a member of SEED, an infantry marine, and a really good friend, is being deployed back to Afghanistan.

Although progress has been made towards a brighter future for Afghanistan, much is still required.

I think it would nice if other agents were willing, post a farewell note here for… Continue

No issue in particular

I never give much thought to this miss treatment of women. In my circles of friends and in my class in society I rarely hear about rape or the general degradation of women. I was just reading on the UN women watch site about the horrific things that women have to face. It really makes my stomach turn, and not even the tales of rape and genitalia discouragement but also the seemingly benign things like men taking credit for a… Continue

Value as Sound

If you don't know, I go to art school and yesturday we had a guest speaker, Hoon Kim. Hoon Kim is a Korean graphic designer who does amazing work using sight and sound to display information. One of the works that he presented in his talk was a new system to depict value using sound and color. The system is based on current US currency but I can easily imagine it representing the credit. Whenever a transaction is made a series of tones is created that represent the value of the purchase or sale… Continue

The Issue with Third Rate Wealth

While reading the Count of Monte Cristo by Alexander Dumas I came across an interesting section. The immeasurably wealthy Count of Monte Cristo is talking to Danglars the chief banker of Paris. The count remarks that while Dangars fortune is great it consists entirely of third rate wealth and thus it is actually worth half of what it is estimated. Humbled, Danglars demands for the count to explain, and of course he does.

The count explains his theory of wealth as thus;

"I make… Continue

Time For Knowledge

So I have been reading all of your act5 posts with great interest, my favorite was Giuseppe's Wood For Money. I liked the relationship that his family developed with a neighbor--both parties benefiting from the exchange. I though about how I could form a relationship like that and then one day I realized that I already had. I currently am interning with a local glass artists named… Continue

Nick Heyming Needs YOUR Help

On behalf of Nick Heyming and Gratitude Gardens I am sending out an Urgent Evoke.

Gratitude Gardens is an Evokation with serious promise but it needs your help. First a little bit about Nick, Growcology, and Gratitude Gardens.

The first step in getting this global… Continue

Design to the Rescue

Hi all

I recently had the opportunity to sit down with Niels LaWhite, chief scientist for Second Wind and ask him a few questions about Wind Energy. I was hoping that he would give me some guidance with my project, instead he opened my eyes to the current wind energy situation in America and how I can help.

One thing that Niels told me which I found very… Continue

Anything is possible

My friend is going to Las Vegas this weekend and she just sent me a photograph from the airplane. The picture shows the landscape from the window as she flies thousands of feet over the ground at a couple hundred miles an hour. The other day I was speaking to Nick Heyming over the web. I was struck by the awe inspiring feat that was taking place--just like I am struck right now when I look at the photo from the plane.

Think about how incredible both of those acts are! simply amazing.… Continue

To my dear friend Stefano

Over the past couple weeks may of you have come to know Stefano Ceiri as a thought provoking, eager and kind EVOKE agent. While following the torrents of posts on blogs like WHATS GOING ON?? & Agents losing their sparks, I noticed that Stefano mentioned that the recent panamericana fiasco has caused him to have doubts about EVOKE. It made me sad that Stefano might leave so I wrote him a message.

I decided to post the message… Continue

What Are You Evoking?

Hello EVOKE,

It is time to get back to work. I have been working on a couple of projects: SEED, Gratitude Gardens, Wind Powered Laptop--but I am interested in what you all are doing?

I think it would be awesome if everyone made a brief reply… Continue

A Special News Bulletin: 2020

The object of Water Day is to get the worlds attention, to raise awareness for the need of sanitation and clean water. If I were put in charge of Water Day 2020 I would draw inspiration from the October 30, 1938 radio broadcast of H. G. Wells book, War of the Worlds. In case you don't know the story here is the gist.

On Sunday, October 30, 1938, millions of radio listeners were shocked when radio news alerts…

Be Remarkable

Lack of food and especially fresh water in impoverished countries like Africa are often seen as less vital causes in light of many of the other issues like the epidemic level of HIV/AIDS--Things could not be farther from the truth. Without food and clean water, people become desperate, violent, and sick. The problem is that clean water is not glamorous--or at least is wasn't. Of all the great efforts that have been made to make clean water available, Scott Harrison and his NPO Charity Water… Continue

Stick in there

Hello EVOKE.

Over the past two weeks I have been monitoring the increasing dissatisfaction that people are having with EVOKE. What I thought I would do is be one of those def-mutes--just ignore the grumblings and play the game. This week we saw the first instances of EVOKE members leaving, and in an effort to prevent that from happening again I want to share some thoughts with you all.

First: EVOKE is not about getting the most power points. The power points are there to help… Continue

Charge my laptop 2

OK so take two. I took a lot of your suggestions and took another stab at getting the turbine to work better.

I rebuilt the earlier model so that I could attach it to a proper tripod.

I would have liked to enhance the gear ratio but I was already using the largest and smallest Lego gears that I had.…

Charge my laptop

My favorite device is my laptop. I use it everyday and I would love to be able to charge it with wind power. Turbines are cool but I know that there is emerging tech, like sails that are even better. I was also thinking that if you could draw power from the trees as they blow in the wind. Either by attaching lines to the tops an draw power from arresting the top from swaying or even better if you could intercept the energy as it is transferred down the trunk into the ground. If anyone has any… Continue

Wind Day

in 2010 me and my friends will be celebrating WindDay. It's a new official holiday that celebrates when Wind energy officially met 100% of America's energy needs. On this day everyone flies kits. It is customary to build your own, but you don't have to. Think how beautiful it will be when hundreds no thousands of kits are in the sky, flown by all ages of people who are celebrating the joys of the wind. On TV news casters talk about emerging wind technology, they have educational segments which… Continue

Learn 3

Ive been scouring the web for interesting stories about creative solutions to the energy crisis.

the first one I found was on TED.com

http://www.ted.com/talks/lang/eng/adam_grosser_and_his_sustainable_fridge.html

Adam Grosser uses Ferdinand Carre's invention of absorption refrigeration to create a 20$ refrigerator that can last 24 hrs and only requires a campfire to warm it for 30… Continue

Grow to Live movement

Amos, I hope you read this because I have been thinking a lot about your farm punk idea. I think that it could really work, especially if you created a community of people who help one another with the farms.

If you don't know about Amos's plan check it out here in his blog: http://www.urgentevoke.com/profiles/blogs/learn2-food-security-in. Having a kit that instructs and guides people how to make a working… Continue

Satisfied but not secure

After reading all the information about food security I was really interested in finding out how secure my community was. I live in Bedford Massachusetts and it turns out that my town and the surrounding areas are well fed. There are at least 5 local farms within a 10 mile radius around me. I was feeling pretty good about this until I read Amos Meeks' Learn2 post:… Continue

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. It is 7'oclock, I was late home from work due to an assignment that i wanted to get ahead on. By the time I get home I am feeling extremley tired and I cannot be bothered to make a proper meal. I walk to the fridge and open it to see what there is for me to eat. All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
