I imagine that in a health crisis the hospitals and clinics would fill up fast. There would be no more room, shelters would be set up in schools and churches as people would flood into the towns and cities looking for help. Sick people would have to be separated from healthy people in the shelters and people would have to know where to go. I would organize my group of people to direct people to the proper shelter, and supplies to the hospitals and shelters by finding out what is needed and to…

The idea of fear being a solution and not the problem surprised me. You always think that you're supposed to get rid of fear usually by saying something like, "Don't be afraid." This is actually making the situation worse. It now makes sense that by legitimizing the fear you are putting it to good use in a way people can handle it and not react in a state of panic. This way brings some focus to the problem. It is so important to establish trust when communicating, especially in times of crisis.…

It is the year 2064 and I am 100 years old. It is my duty to leave these words of wisdom to you so that you may know them then pass them on when it is your time to do so. When I was young most people were foolish, they thought it was fine to have more and more of everything even when it wasn't necessary, it was just to have. Most people disregarded the warning signs the earth gave us. A few saw the signs and spoke of them, but for the most part people did not listen. we lost a lot of the…

In Oaxaca Mexico traditional medicine people who happen to be mostly women are now able to come together and collaborate. This has been a long and lengthy struggle for them. They can now catalog plants and herbs, and how to use them. They now have an overall health program in place where training for courses and workshops focusing on medicinal plants and traditional practices can be found. There is also a council of traditional medicine where their medicine is recognized. This is a great…

Magnolia will probably be pretty much the same except the town will have adopted greener ways, hybrid school buses and cars, solar power for anyone, new improved waste water plant, and more parks and trees for enjoyment.

My town is actually small so I can't find anything about a disaster plan or relief plan on that level, however I think help comes from a higher level, on the state and federal level. They focus first on education and emergency preparedness for families and friends. To be aware of what to do in case of emergencies. But Mississippi Emergency Management steps in after the emergency to give what help they can, low interest loans for individuals and small busisness owners to help rebuild, temporary…

Hurricane season is always a threat for those of us who live in the deep south. We know that at any time a storm can form and devestate our towns, destroying our homes and our places of work. Important information to track before the storm hits would be the potential track the storm will take so people can evacuate as easily and effectively as possible. knowing where the traffic jams are and possible side roads to take would be extremely important as well as the location of storm shelters. The…

In the year 2020 the small outreach project in L.A. that helped move girls from gangs to restaurants has grown into a powerful entity. The girls they helped have grown into strong, powerful, compassionate women who are actively pursuing the equal rights of women everywhere in the world. They have taken the skills they learned to a new level and have become ambassadors to women everywhere . The project itself has evolved from a small outreach program teaching cooking skills and self esteem to…

While doing a little research online I found this organization called Global Giving. They have many programs to help people in need but for me one caught my interest. It actually helps young girls move from gangs to restaurants in L.A.. It can lead from cooking cla**** to full time employment at a full service restaurant called Homegirl Cafe. Many of these girls are in trouble with the law,and have been in jail, been physically hurt and see no way out of this kind of life. This program can give…

Human trafficking is a crime, an inhuman practice that turns people into merchandise, labor or sex slaves,or even organ donors. They are all in one way or another exploited for their bodies. Unfortunately the vulnerable are often sought out, women in some kind of trouble, or young runaways, people with no voice or ability to say no. They are even sometimes sold into slavery by their own families just so their families can make some money. There have been instances when they are sought out and…

It is April 1, 2020 and a new community exchange just opened up, called the Magnolia Exchange. It serves southern Mississippi with hopes to expand to serves all southern states in the future. This exchange is where people can bring their goods and or talents and swap them for what they need. This exchange is off to an exciting…

My family came up with a creative idea about work and money for our house. In our house everyone has specific chores to do on specific days and at the end of the week if all the chores have been done, family members are rewarded with family bucks that they can turn in for different things like special items or nights out, ect. or family members can pool their family bucks together for even bigger things. This is a good system, the chores get done, the family works together and everyone is…

I like the idea of bartering. To me it makes use of what a person is good at, everyone has a purpose, a skill that can be used for the community. One can trade or barter what they are good at for something they want or need.

In 10 years I would like to challenge everyone, businesses, schools, homes, ect. to have an alternative water source, to not be so dependent upon their public utilities. Why not a water catchment system as an alternative? It could be an extensive system or something as simple as a trash can collecting water for the garden, pets, or even washing the car! Why wait for 10 years, start now!

I have found a great way to get family and possibly my community involved in doing our part to help solve the water crisis! The Water Project involves getting the wh*** community involved, schools, churches, youth groups, business, families, and friends with a simple fundraiser that lasts only two weeks. Just drink only water for 2 weeks then donate the money you would have spent on coffee, soda, juice, ect. to the fundraiser! The money that is raised is used for wells and other water projects…

The water to wine project is "Transforming lives one quarter at a time," It is a non profit organization that funds clean drinking projects around the world. Right now their pilot restaurants are the Rucker Johns restaurants in North Carolina, but other restaurants across the united States will be partnering with them to encourage each guest to donate a quarter to the cause.

I am celebrating my 38th wedding anniversary with my husband and our sons and their families. It is evening and just beginning to get dark. We are outside in the backyard. We have twinkle lights in the trees and strung along the porch. These lights have been charged by solar power during the day. Our food has been cooked on our grill that is solar powered with rechargable batteries allowing to grill at night.

Although this is not a NEW way of powering our car, I think it is a really great idea and a neat renewable energy source. I'm talking here of using cooking oil to run the car! It has been done a few times with great sucess, there have even been trips made all accross the continental United States using cooking oil. When you need more just stop at a resturant and use their cast off cooking oil to fill up! I've read it even smells good!

The company SC Johnson that makes products like Johnson's wax, pledge, raid, ziploc bags, and glade, ect., have some great sustainability efforts. This company uses garbage, and waste palm shells and wind to help power their facilities, cutting down greenhouse gas emissions and use of fossil fuels. In 2008 SC Johnson secured a clean source for 46% of the electricity required to run the Bay City Michigan factory. Renewable wind power now replaces nearly half the factory's annual purchase of…
