LEARN: Food Security and Physical Security

My immediate neighbor to the south, Mexico, has seen it's share of problems in recent times. The constant battle waged against drugs, lawlessness and corruption has been spilling over into our own borders for several years now, to the point where our command has forbid it's personnel to step foot on Mexican soil. At one point, grenade attacks were a constant, and very real threat to the physical security of Mexican nationals; And what of the food security?

ACT: Food Boxes

An interestingly simple way for a populous to share it's non-perishable foods would be to utilize what already exists in the majority of large cities, which, coincidentally, seem to harbor the majority of those without homes; Old, no-longer-in-use mailboxes.

Even without modification, these mailboxes could stand to receive foodstuffs from informed passers-by, whose charitable donations would make life a bit easier for those of us with less food security than others. However,… Continue

Ten years from today...

I'm heading to work, early in the morning. The daily routine is about to begin; My wife and I have completed our early meditation and are enroute to the Dojo, which I own as a branch of Skilled Fighting Arts. I spend the majority of my days there, teaching others the principles of the martial arts that have enriched my own life, and helping to shape the future of those that train under me. With the right guidance, they might continue on to become a complete person--A feat much more…

Following the Footsteps Over the Mountain

When I joined the Marine Corps in 2005, I thought I was entering a world of high-speed, ultra-intense combat and adrenaline. After about a year and a half of constant training, I came to find that the speed wasn't quite as high as I'd thought, and when it finally came our turn to taste the adrenaline of actual combat, things were very different than I could've imagined.

Patrols were long and tedious, days were long and that cool looking gear was sure uncomfortable.…

Innovation through relentless perseverence.

"A morning glory

has usurped my well bucket

...I can go next door."

The haiku above is the embodiment of the Japanese character, Nin. It's meanings are many, but one can generally be agreed upon by all: Perseverance. Nin is constructed of two characters, a sword, and a heart; Sword is positioned above heart, to remind us to put away the intangible emotions that come when adversity strikes, and focus instead on the solution to the problem at…

"I love that you've brought this to attention. An extensive database of uncommon but resistant and hardy plants/foods could be developed and organized by climate. Ease of growth and processing should also be taken in to account. I will try to…"

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
