A crash course in changing the world.
For it's next season, EVOKE should tackle problems related to children - like child slavery or poverty. Although child problems are closely related to world problems in general, they are a special target group who needs a lot of attention. Children are the ones who will built our future and therefore highly important. One has to show them how to live a respectful and useful life. Furthermore EVOKE could tackle problems which are related to globalization. In Europe, there are huge problems…

For me the complete crisis communication was very helpful and informative. I have learned a lot of new things and also things which were really surprising (for example that hating something - like a virus - can help people to handle the situation and to express people`s fears).
But the most interesting aspect for me was the distinction between outrage and hazard. I never thought about this problem in detail but when you think about it, it is almost always the hazard people talk about…

I read an interesting case study on CBNRM about The Sustainable Management Of Prunus Africana In The Mount Cameroon Region.
In the Mt. Cameroon area grows a tree which is called Prunus Africana. Its bark is used to produce drugs by a pharmaceutical company from France. The trading with the bark was the reason why it came to an irresponsible handling with the resources (due to black markets, too much…

Natural disasters are not very typical for Germany. I also cannot imagine that there could be food shortage although it might be possible due to crop failures or delivery problems. Therefore I consider a health outbreak as the most possible crisis my city could face. There could be a pandemic because of accidents or carelesness in hospitals or labs.
If a pandemic or any disease would break out in Nuremberg, it would be important to collect the following information:
-what…

This week I supported an organisation called Global Grassroots to help women in Rwanda to get educated. Rwanda is a country traumatized by a terrible genocide in 1994. Before, gender equality and empowering women was not on the agenda of the policy. Many people - particularly men- died during the genocide. Many women were left - abused or mutilated but with the chance to shoulder responsibility. Altough the nation began to empower women it is still not easy for Rwandan women. A lack of…

I read a lot about different projects on the global giving website. I decided to donate very quickly because I often want to support a project but don't know which one to support. There are a lot of different projects and not every organisation has a good repudation. Global giving convinced me because you can find a lot of infomation, pictures and contacts. Still - there are a lot of opportunities left. In the end, it was a quote from a woman which was crucial for my…

"Had there been no school meals, I would have been married by now."
(Grace, 15)
This quotation is from a school girl in Malawi. On WomenWatch I read about an interesting project from the World Food Programme. First I was confused what the WFP could have to do with empowering woman. The article on WomenWatch said, that one reason why parents send particularly their daughters to…

My research discovered a local currency in Germany, which is called "the chiemgauer" (Chiemgau is a region in Bavaria). I haven't heard of it before and that is why I think it is very interesting.
"The chiemgauer" originally started as a school project from an economics teacher who wanted to teach his pupils something about finance. Therefore they created their own money which could be used in real shops and stores. The currency was pegged to the euro on a one-by-one basis with notes…

For World Water Day 2020 I would plan a worldwide event. The purpose of the event would be to inform people, to collect new innovative ideas, bring people together and of course have fun.
Several companies and organisations would have the opportunity to sponsor or to introduce their ideas. Furthermore innovators, NGOs and aid workes are encouraged to inform people about their work and their innovations. This would also be a great opportunity for companies to find new innovations which…

Polluted water is a cause of disease in developing countries and worldwide. 80% of the diseases in developing countries are reducible to polluted water. Big water treatment plants are not possible in rural areas because of the sparsely settled environment. A group from "Engineers without borders" from Darmstadt decided to develop a system which disinfects water. Because the system had to be simple, cheap to built and for different places, they decided to use solar power to built it.…

I chose a creative electricity project from Yanko Design (Yanko Design).
Altough they considerably say that their invention is not a "green project" I still think the idea is really useful.
The designers Song Teaho and Hyejin Lee came up with a human-powered battery for mobile phones.…

In Germany one might think that food security is not such a big problem. Indeed hunger is not that obvious in developed countries. Nevertheless even our society has to face food security problems. In my hometown (Bad Neustadt, Bavaria) we therefore have a subsidiary from an institution called "Die Tafel" (Die Tafel). This institution collects surplus goods and distributes them to people in need. That this is a necessary organization even for…

I chose to write about Jill Farrant. She is a professor of molecular and cell biology at the University of Cape Town. I read a lot of stories about interesting projects and people. I chose Jill Farrant because with her research she is trying to solve one of the biggest plant problems in Africa - and therefore combining her profession with an approach to improve the biological situation.…

"Don't fight culture"
- this one is definitely my favourite one.
Of course every tip is useful and to really change something you surely have to consider every single one of them. Nevertheless this statement stands out for me. I think one reason why a lot of development aid missions fail is because people do not understand what the foreign culture really is about. Altough to me it is one of the basic steps of changing something -…
