Thriving not Just Surviving in 2020

On reading the Imagine 7 challenge, the first thought that came to my mind was Kibera – an urban slum housing in Nairobi, Kenya. The word Kibera is commonly thought to be the Nubian term for Forest or Jungle. Encompassing an area of 2.5km2 (a little bit smaller than Central Park in…

Poor Naked Africans

Fellow Agents, some of you may have heard of a new campaign called One Million Shirts who want to collect 1,000,000 used and new t-shirts and send them to Africa to help people with no clothes. They are also collecting money for the shipping costs. This project by a (well intentioned?) Jason Sadler who is taking A LOT of criticism from…

Indigenous Healers with a Twist

The story of the traditional healers from Oaxaca (mhh… I wonder how this word is pronounced) immediately caught my attention. These healers have struggle for recognition by official associations and the benefits that have accrued to indigenous women are now quantifiable. I found additional information on these awesome…

Resilient Kenya

Kenya is located on the East African coast and our estimated population is just over 40million. About 79% of this population lives in the rural areas. Of the urban dwellers, 60% live in informal settlements. Rural communities and informal settlers are usually the most affected when…

Re-start the Circle 2020

In ACT 6 (Women 4 Women), I shared about 2 young women from Starehe Girls Center who I mentor. I have been mentoring Shaba and Taiya (not their real names) since 2009 when they were in Form 4 (equivalent to O Levels / grade 12). Both sat for their national examinations in December 2009, passed with flying colors and are sure to be accepted to a good university.

In 2010 they have begun their gap period.…

Women 4 Women

My parents were born into poverty. But because someone believed in them, they received a good basic education. From this, they raised 4 of their own children each of who are educated to post graduate level. They also educated a village of children who have grown up to be teachers, doctors, researchers, politicians (sadly), lawyers,…

The root of all evil?

Money is commonly defined as medium that can be exchanged for goods and services and is used as a measure of their value on the market. Money makes it easier to trade, borrow, save, invest, and compare the value of goods and services.

Money has value only because we, humans have dictated that. A piece of colored paper with the picture of another (usually dead) human being has no value in itself. Money does not create inequality - humans do. Sound reasonable doesn’t…

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
