A crash course in changing the world.
EVOKE is a call to action to make a change, big or small, in your community. They urge citizens to become informed about some of the most pressing issues facing the world and then make it their mission to find innovative solutions to these problems. It forces people to think outside of the box and become a creative problem solver. It does not ask you what others can do, but instead, it allows you to explore how you can be the difference. The goal of EVOKE is to motivate people to solve these…

I think that EVOKE should focus next on the issues of education inquiry that exist around the world. Education is the key to success and unlocking countless opportunities. People should be tasked with changing this in their community and help to empower underprivileged students. A child's future should not be dictated by the ZIP code that they grew up in or due to the lack of resources at his school. Children are the future leaders of the world, so they ALL deserve to be educated as if they…

I would draft a group comprised of local leaders in different fields of expertise. The doctor would be able to provide medical insight, the public safety officer would be able to help make an action plan best suited for the communities needs, etc. The team would be tasked with making sure that the community has the resources it needs in order to fight the pandemic. We would educate people on what to do if they contracted the flu and give aid to them in an effort to contain it. We would work…

I think the most interesting part of this journal is coming to terms with uncertainty. People all over the world have a different orientation when it comes to this subject: some welcome the uncertain and other avoid it, afraid that it will affect their familiar routine. Coming to terms with the fact that life is full of uncertainties is of utmost importance in order to be prepared for the worst case scenario.

In 100 years from now, I want the youth to be sustaining their own environments. I would tell them to utilize the natural resources that surround them in order to minimize their impact on the earth. I would like to see all homes and companies powered from a renewable source of energy like water, wind, or the sun instead of on fossil fuels. I would tell them to keep innovating to make the world a better place for the future. Minimize pollution and focus on longterm sustainability.

After reading through several articles, I found that there were particular themes in which countries used. One was educating the ma**** on the purpose of the mission. When the citizens were educated they felt a sense of ownership to their resources and more empowered and compelled to save them. Take for example the forests in Uganda, or the natural resources in Botswana. People learned that they can profit off of their resources if they use them properly and work to sustain them.

What are the most likely natural disasters, food shortages, power outages, political crises, health outbreaks, or other social disruptions that YOU should be prepared to face with resilience? Pick one.
What different kinds of data would you track in the crisis?
What different kinds of urgent information and resources would you need to collect and share?
Hurricanes are a natural threat to the state of Florida. Because of the long history of hurricanes devastating the state,…

I like the resilience plans that reflect the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of companies all over the US. Starbucks is a company that seeks to incentivize environmentally sound habits. They offer discounts to customers that use refillable jigs for their drinks and instead of throwing away old coffee grounds, they allow customers to take it home and use it in their gardens. Another corporation that makes a positive impact on the community is the UF Innovation Hub. They allow for more…

A Girls place in Alachua county makes it their mission to help girls develop into courageous, strong and self sufficient women. By volunteering an afternoon, I was able to help with this mission. By simply playing outside after school and helping with homework, I was able to remind the girls that they can be anything they want to be. The impact that this organization has on the community is amazing and watching the girls become empowered and encouraged to be as good the boys.

Millions of unsafe abortions are performed each year around the world. Abortions are legally allowed in 98% of the countries of the world for women who are at risk for death or serious illness due to her pregnancy. There are many social, political and religious factors that play into this and cause many women to seek an unsafe abortion in fear of ridicule or excommunication from their society. Women who cannot have a safe abortion, should access healthy and safe care from a medical provider…
