When the earthquake hit Haiti in January 2010 we immediately ran to Ushahidi for help -- I first ran across them two years prior at a NetSquared mobile technologies summit where we were premiering great new tools like theirs. Living in community means making decisions with a large group of people. We meet by consensus and decide how to address our water needs and situations. Since we are currently required by law to be attached to LADWP for our "public utilities" there are certain restrictions on what we can work with locally. Most of Southern California does not allow for composting toilets or other natural waste aeration systems that handle flow differently than the system understands. Continue
