Growing plants

It struck me just now, although it is pretty obvious really, how central growing food is, to every other issue of social development that we face, from war and terrorism, to land use, to well, everything.

It is a matter of scarce resources in a way. Everyone needs to eat. People who have food handy have one less thing to worry about, and one more tool with which to accomplish their goals. People who do not, for whatever reason, must choose their of course of action carefully because… Continue

An idea I had for local food sharing, and ideas generally

I have been looking at everyone's ideas, it seems there are many ideas and plans for some pretty awesome stuff.

I confess I get ideas. Sometimes I even go so far as to plan them out. Some of them are even ideas to help people in my area.

One idea I had and spent a lot of time thinking about last year was to make a community food trade forum. Basically, I was thinking about how most of the people I know have some pretty specific resources, often beyond their needs, similarly,… Continue

2020 Foresight

When Alchemy calls me, where will I be? How will I be in a position to help? It is pretty hard to say; my life is on no particular trajectory right now, except that I want to maybe have kids at some point in the next ten years. But, if I start in the future and examine my path, maybe I can piece it together.

I know that Alchemy has called me as a social innovator to help solve a food crisis. So... what kind of social innovation am I likely to be involved in? Currently, I have studied… Continue

The importance of planning

My favorite of the secrets was Paul Polaks tenth secret: work to practical, three-year plans. I am a big fan of plans. Plans are the intermediate step between an idea and reality, or between the present and the future. Plans are in my opinion where your idea gets life and substance. It is where you extrapolate what you want to have happen into what you need to do to get there. With a good enough plan almost anyone can do almost anything I think.

I also like what Paul says a plan needs:… Continue

"I love that you've brought this to attention. An extensive database of uncommon but resistant and hardy plants/foods could be developed and organized by climate. Ease of growth and processing should also be taken in to account. I will try to…"

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
