As the first season is almost completed and many people still want to connect, I've created a group called URGENTEVOKE in Second Life, a virtual reality 'game'.
The Evoke name has been changed to Urgent vEVOKE…

UPDATE 20100515: I tried again to buy local veggies from our Sat Community market but none available again. I'll just have to try best I can to buy local products as close to home as I can until the gardens have grown.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So I made a promise with myself to go all out and only buy local fresh food on our small island here once the Saturday community market opened. I was there first thing on opening day... and all I could find was rhubarb…
UPDATE 20100515:
This was a draft I was working on to prepare for an Evokation, I'm tagging it with Learn7 to keep it for next year and will talk to my local Emergency Response team about the idea and how best to refresh everyone's memory about what they're to do and where to go in an emergency here.…
UPDATE: 20100512: I gave this a lot of thought, and it just keeps happening that the more I read the more I am dismayed we let this get so out of hand. And I'm reading both sides. The Salmon sellers say no probs, the companies say no probs, but the young salmon (smolts) are dying or disappearing so their silent voice says it all to me. Did you know they DYE the farmed salmon PINK so you'll think it's tasty??? Did you know they ship smaller fish from Chili to feed their fish here (besides…
To be a Social Innovator I believe as many do that one must listen to the people and respect their culture and way of life, and only then will the trickle-down complications to solutions of problems be understood.
We must understand the problem right down to the nitty details; too often a problem is discovered and the solution races to mind.
Sometimes the problem isn't the problem, it's someone's solution to fix a problem. Read that…
I've never marched in a protest before, so this is a first.
Tomorrow I'll be on a bus load of Quadra Islanders driving 4 hours to be with Alexandra Morton in Victoria and march to the Parliament Buildings to bring awareness that the open-net fish farm industry must get out of the waters.
I hardly know what to pack for such an event except I'll be wearing my marching shoes and bring my loudest voice. Wish me luck.…
After following Alexandra Morton, my hero who I've been shadowing lately as part of Act1 exercise to find a mentor, I found the more I learned about what she was doing about the issues faced with wildlife and water quality due to the abundance of open-net fish farms being allowed on salmon migration routes, and the way they pump the salmon with drugs to kill off the lice. The more I understand now why she is so passionate about doing something to get the fish farms out of our waters and on to…
Thanks for asking for feedback Alchemy, I hope we also get to hear the things you learned from your first season too. Did you know Bill Gates was the first to ask customers what suggestions they had for improving service?
Alexandra Morton is my hero and she's almost reached her destination of Victoria BC Canada to march to the Parliament Buildings to show the support and send a message to our government that open-net fish farms must get out of our waters and on to land.
I'll be on the bus organized to take people from Quadra Island down to Victoria (4 hour drive) so will be there with all her supporters on May 8. I'm bringing my loudest voice.
If you can't be…
I won a prize today for a contest that Bridges ran, and the first thing I did was to donate the prize back to Bridges for their students to have a prize draw, their staff to have something nice given to them, or to save as a Silent Auction prize. I did this the last time I won a prize and will probably always give them something back whenever I can. And this is not to say I didn't like winning the prize, I LOVE winning and always try for the brass ring. If I get it, fantastic, and if I don't…
This small island where I live is vulnerable to disaster, not only do we get some nasty winter storms knocking out power for days, with all the trees and forested areas here a forest fire in the dry season could quickly get out of hand.
We have an emergency response team with RCMP and volunteer firefighters, and have formed a Disaster Relief team who have organized emergency shelter plans at places with generators (resorts and Community Centre). We have a 'buddy' system…
I posted the first video I made (not counting just letting the film roll) in response to the Bridges for Women contest to celebrate Volunteer Week. I didn't let the huge learning curve or the frustration stop me, I knew I was learning and that's a good thing.
Today I was notified that I won their Grand Prize for my entry, I am just so excited as I had entered a similar contest for TechSoup Global in their Digital StoryTelling Challenge, this one trying to explain what…
