Next Chapter For Evoke - PASSING THE TORCH

EPISODE 1

MEETING ROOM

I reject your reality and substitute my own - Adam Savage, Mythbusters

PAGE 1

PANEL A

Evoke agents are lounging around a casual meeting space.

EMBER 1

What a crazy year. I can't believe we pulled all those stunts off.

ALCHEMY 2

Well, not everything went as planned...

EMBER 3

Expression: Wry grin.

You know, they say that if you want to make God laugh, tell Him your… Continue

EVOKE MANIFESTO

Evoke is you. It's me. It's everyone. Every time you help someone, every time you march for a cause or participate in public debate, you are carrying the spirit of an Evoke agent within you. You have the power to create change - all you have to do is step up and play your part.

Evoke is:

The next chapter - politics

In my opinion, I think Evoke would be the perfect vehicle to deal with political campaigns and other political issues. Evokers could set up unbiased platform wikis about the issues at stake, help set up community voter registration and fraud-protection/watchdog groups and get information on any crooked dealings to the general public through various media and sources.

I also think Evoke should have campus groups on as many colleges and other school sites as possible. Wouldn't it be… Continue

Local crisis information twitter tags

Here is my call to action:

In a crisis, it's important to be able to see what's happening in your area quickly so you can respond. That's why I'm calling on all mobile- and computer-enabled citizens to post updates about conditions, problems, solutions, needs and other issues to Twitter using the #AVLcrisis[cat] tag, using the following categories abbreviations:

  • CND (conditions on the ground)
  • RSP (crisis responders - EMTs, fire, ambulance, police, etc -…

Get Informed Asheville

Just what it says on the label. Here's the link to my crisis dark site. I haven't customized it much yet, but I will set aside time to work on that on that this weekend.

Passenger Rail coming to Asheville?

I found this very interesting indeed: WNC Passenger Rail Initiative. There's not much info on the city website, but hunting around a local paper I found some updates that seem to indicate that it's a go. This would be an incredible solution to several of the area's transportation issues, and would help alleviate future gas shortage crises and related problems.

I shared this information with my friends on Facebook… Continue

Blue Ridge Bucks launch in WNC

Buoyed by the success of several small-scale local currencies, several

counties in western North Carolina have launched the area's first

regional currency, the Blue Ridge Bucks.

The introduction of this currency will serve several purposes: It will

keep local money in the area instead of being siphoned off to distant

corporate HQs; it will help create economic resilience and a strong

community economy by encouraging people to shop locally and to… Continue

risk = hazard + outrage

Reading about the the

five secrets of Crisis Communication, I was most interested in the formula of risk = hazard + outrage and how the nature of communications was so tied into this balance. I was especially interested in the wh*** concept of "outrage management" - manipulating the presentation of the hazard as a way to manage and channel behavior and interest to… Continue

Asheville LETS

Asheville has a LETS (Local Exchange Trade System) that I've been meaning to join for a while now and never got around to it and this mission has gotten me inspired to make that happen. Although I won't be able to actually join and participate before attending an orientation meeting, I have scheduled myself for the next one and really look forward to finding yet another way to become an interwoven part of my community and extend my own… Continue

The gatekeepers to food security - first and last frost

There is one vital piece of information you need to know about an area if you're going to try to live on sustainably and locally raised food, and that's the date-range for the first and last frost of the season. It may seem like such a little thing, but getting it wrong can mean losing an entire year's crop on either end.

Here in the mountains, our weather can be fickle. The temps get balmy fairly early in spring, often feeling downright temperate early as mid-March. But don't let… Continue

Solutions should always come from within

As someone with a background in life coaching and who works in the personal development field, the pattern I saw repeated in every case studies in indigenous knowledge mirrors something that all coaches are taught almost from day one: Solutions coming from the outside will never fit as well as the solutions your client creates for themselves, because your solutions will always come from your experience, your understanding and your point of view. None of which is true for them.… Continue

Playing Santa at the food pantry

As part of my last Americorps service year, I got to spend 3 months working in the Emma Family Resource Center (serving the Emma community) and my favorite part of the job was managing the food pantry. Every week, I got to spend the first half of one day "shopping" at the local MANNA food bank, buying and entire truckload of food to restock our pantry.

Then I got to help make up food boxes to give out to those in need. I loved this job so much, because it felt like I got to be Santa… Continue

Ushahidi Asheville - Tracking the gas supply

As Asheville residents learned a few years back, as a geographically isolated city we have a very tenuous supply of fuel. When hurricanes Gustav and Ike plowed through the southern coast, it shut down fuel deliveries to a bare trickle. And what's worse, most of the fuel trucks heading our way were emptied long before they got near us, and the high mountain pa**** cost so much more in transportation fuel costs that… Continue

A field of dreams is harvested in 2020

For my story, I picked a group that is training women farmers in organic agriculture in Nepal. As it says on their page..."In rural Nepal, many men often migrate to the city in search of work, and women are left to raise families and farm. In recent decades, farmers have become overly dependent on chemical fertilizers and pesticides and over time, local practices of sustainable farming have been… Continue

My day job is empowering women

Every workday I make the commute from my bedroom to my living room/office and I spend my day creating life coaching programs designed to empower and inspire women. I take books by some of the best writers and experts in the self-help field and turn that material into 3-month programs specifically designed to help women create real change in their lives, whether that's building stronger relationships, getting fit and healthy, managing their money, finding their passion or living from their… Continue

Trafficking isn't just happening over there

This article on human trafficking in Egypt caught my attention because I've been meeting with a friend who is working on this issue locally, as in right here in North Carolina. Her Facebook page here tells it all: SEX Trafficking Children in NC is NOT okay with me!

Yes, sex trafficking, child… Continue

The Future Of Money...Isn't

My personal vision for the future of money is that people find a way to live without it, or at least with less of it. I envision individuals creating their own patchwork economies based on barter, LETS/timebank programs, local currencies, whuffie, recycling, DIY, communal resource sharing and so on. Each person would be able to customize a system that works best for them, maybe using local currencies to buy food from a farmer's market and… Continue

Crowdsourcing Pure Water

My challenge for everyone on World Water Day 2020 would be to host a classroom challenge across the world asking students of all ages, grades and nationalities to create their own inventions, projects or ideas to purify, filter, access, recycle, collect or transport water or otherwise address a water crisis issues.

Then on Water Day, there would be massive worldwide events where the students could demonstrate their projects. Maybe some would get picked up for funding in places where… Continue

Uncultured Project FTW

For my ACT4 challenge, I spread the word about the Uncultured Project, which is basically just this one guy (Shawn Ahmed) who moved to Bangladesh to see if he could help. He uses the power of the web and crowdsourcing to generate funds and interest for life saving projects like providing clean water, mosquito netting medicines and other things to the people he lives and works with.

Check out his YouTube channel here:… Continue

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
