Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

this works in tandem with a lot of things that i have been discussing with people on this sight. mainly comments i have made and posts people have placed about sustainable gardening practice and gardening in general.

i have been gardening for years now. when i was young, my father was and organic farmer. really an organic farmer. sun, water, dirt and cow manure, that was the only thing you put on plants. as i got older, i tended to move a lot, so i rarely had land to call my own. i worked on designing modular growing systems, heirloom tomatoes 6 ft tall in a three gallon buckets, self contained worm and compost systems, that kind of stuff...

i still have friends who kill cacti.

so here's what we are going to be doing.

i am applying to 'the seattle free school' and am going to begin workshops there. i sign up this time next week. i will keep regular blog posts updating this, for anyone who is interested and in the area.

also, for those of you not local to seattle, i will begin a video blog series on container gardening and sustainable gardening practices. there are a few people i need to get in touch with on the EVOKE network before i start that because you all have such great ideas and valid input.

see you here!

So glad you're doing this. Let me know if you need any mentorship, I'm not an expert but I am currently a Master Gardener Trainee and we've got a bunch of workshops on this stuff coming up this spring.

I'm seriously considering doing some webcasts or webinars for some of these workshops...

I live in the tropics in the Southern hemisphere, so I know whatever you're teaching will be backwards to whatever season I'm in.

I've tried gardening, and I wish I could make it work (because oddly I'm really keen to be a good gardener). But really, if I plant something, the only thing thats pretty certain is that it will die before it bears decent fruit.

Let me know when (if) your video blog gets up and I promise to subscribe.

Some of the stuff will just be how to start a community garden. How to find partners, etc.

Some of it will be how to start a compost pile.

Some of it will be how to do a container garden.

All of those things are more or less universal, though I'll post about my Southern Hemisphere composting experiences soon...

I'm looking forward to this too. My mother has a wonderful flower garden, but uses a darwinian survival of the fittest mentality for a lot of it. I'm looking forward to trying my hand at something small on my own; small because I rent and will be moving next fall. It won't be much, but it will be something...
