A crash course in changing the world.
The 4th of April 2020 will be a Saturday. It is in the morning hours. The sun already rose up. I crept out of the house quietly, because I did not want to rouse my wife and our children so early. Now I am near my home in the contiguous hills for a short morning mountain bike trip.
My family and I live in a nice situated suburb of the City where I work. I have a job at an automotive supplier, which manufactures efficient electric motors. There I collaborate on a project for our next model series. It will have more saving in weight and a higher efficiency factor. About nine years before, a lot of manufacturer researched in electric cars and we often talk about electric vehicle networks at university. But at this time electric cars were not economic. On the one hand we had much expensive batteries and on the other hand we did not have the infrastructure with green electric power for this new generation of cars. Foremost now, it becomes ready to go into production. Of course, it is not an easy job and I have a lot to do. But I feel good in what I am doing. I am happy to make my own contribution in this scope.
I am not environmentally friendly at work only. My wife and I disposed to use public transport, walk and go by bicycle as often as it is possible. Because we choose placing our home favorable to get to work or in the city, I am able to bike to work on sunny days or use the bus when it rains. I get used to use bike or bus and I am not the only one. A lot of people recognized that it is senseless to constipate roads with their cars and emit much carbon dioxine (if they still use combustion engines), while most of them drive alone. Therefore I trust in the public transport, if I have to go by it. There are much less traffic jams in the rush hours now. So, the bus is always on time. For me this is a very relaxing journey.
But today it is Saturday. I do not want to think about work and the way to the company. Everything fared well the last time. So I did not have to worry about my job. I enjoy the damp and chilly air between the trees. Now, the last downhill part – “Wohooo!” After a short ride I get to the baker and buy some rolls for breakfast with my family.
Arriving home, my family is already waked up. The table is set and they wait for me and the warm rolls. I jump under the shower and have breakfast with them. Suddenly in the corridor the phone rings. One of my children stands up runs to the phone and brings it to me. The display shows “Alchemy”. My wife says: “Not now, let’s have breakfast first. Then you will have enough time to call him back and change the world.”
