A crash course in changing the world.

i imagine that i will be in the houses of parliment arguing the case of involving youth into politics and decreasing the voting age to 16. i believe that England will see the case that their are more people voting for the act of Simon Cowell who's teeth are whiter than Andrew Murray's championships white (probably sponsored by persil). young people have inspired older generations for years now, and just by giving birth many people in transition to person to parent become more generous and loving, if we can harvest this power and turn this injustice into a greater community of empowered young people then, one day we have an extra chance of creating a better world.

So long as we're doing a good job of educating our youth, why not?

Wait, are we doing a good job at that?

@Nick - depends on the country your looking at, for us in the US, no where not.

@ Harrison - look to developing and harnessing the wisdom of elders. The UK and the US both have a habit of being youth centric to the point that rejection of older wisdom occurs by media and marketing regardless if its good, valid or important. We need to recognize every stage of life has contributions for all of us.

i think that the voting age should be lowered to 16. in general, 16 year olds today are more informed about events than most 18 year olds were 70 years ago.

another issue, though, is emotional maturity. i'm not so sure about that :)

in an age where most youths in the west are used to having Mother State fix things for them, they might have illusions about what the real life struggles is about, or they might take things for granted - be that freedom of expression or other things.

@Raymond - you raise a good point, many nations and cultures have lost the rites of passage that demarcate adulthood from childhood. as such, we have for example 39 year old parents who are less emotional mature then there kids or around the same emotional maturity level.

This is a tricky one to solve.

Hi Harrison,

Different countries have different laws, so I can only comment from an Australian perspective. I think 16 year olds should have the option to vote, but it not be compulsarory till they are 18. At the age of 16 many people are already working part time, paying taxes, they are legally old enough to have children and drive a car, so it is silly that they be denied the vote.

Especially when I know of older people who have been voting many years and still don't understand the voting system! Age is not the issue.

I also think there should be better education regarding how the voting system works, and a booklet where each candidate has one page to say what they stand for for voters to review a month in advance of voting - otherwise we simply hear lots from the campaigners with money and never hear of the independents. Give voters more access to unbiased information, rather than all the marketing leaflets.

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
