A crash course in changing the world.
My favourite water cleaning project is a project called "PAUL" (stands for "Portable Aqua Unit for Lifesaving" ), which was invented by Prof. Dr.-Ing. F.-B. Frechen from the University of Kasself and is kind of a waterbackpack.
Here is how it works:
There is a membrane in it, which filters more than 99.99% of bacteria and other pathogens from polluted water, so that it can be used for drinking, cooking etc. .
The main advantage of PAUL is that it´s as effective as normal water transportation, but way more efficient, because one PAUL unit weighs only about 20kg and is able to filter 1.200l every day, which is enough for 400 victims/refugees etc. to survive and they can even filter the water themselves which makes them kind of independent (at least in the long term).
PAUL also uses no enegry, no chemicals and no consumables, is extremely robust and can be carried just like a normal backpack, so that it´s quite portable, too.
I think PAUL is a really really great invention, because it not only provdies people with clean, drinkable water, but also helps them to become more and more independent, for example you could combine PAUL with the energy-kiosk mentioned in the task before (combine in the sense of "use them both") to help people and the villages they life in to build and opperate their own energy amd water solutions and to become independent from others in the future.
