Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

There are thousands of people in the world today making a difference in the future ahead of us. Whether they are focusing on social justice, discrimination, health, poverty, or hunger these are the brave citizens that are making the future a brighter, healthier, and happier place to live in. Dr. Jay D. Keasling, a proffesor of Chemical Engineering and Bioengineering at the Univercity of California, in Berkley is one of those people. Throughout the years Dr. Keasling has been the winner of many awards including The Scientist of the Year Award by Discovery magazine and the winner of the Biotech Humanitarian Award by BIO, the Biotechnology Industry Organization. His current research is developing a drug called Artemisinin. Made to fight malaria it is engineered off of the Escherichia coli bacterium and designed to be given to third world countries that do not have the high funding to buy expensive medicine. Although right now the drug is said to be overpriced the Keasling lab is working on lowering the price to 25 cents a dose rather than $2.40 a dose.
The reasons I picked Dr. Keasling as my hero for social innovation is obvious. He has designed a medicine that in the future could hypothetically change the lifestyle of thousands, who's communities are highly affected by malaria. But the reasons I picked Dr. Keasling over the hundreds and thousands of other brilliant people destined to save the world is far more interesting. At this current moment 250 million people a year are diagnosed with malaria. Sadly most of them are in Sub-Saharan Africa where they cannot afford many of the medications for treatment or prevention. If in the future Dr. Keasling was able to distribute Artemisinin to at least half of these people he would be affecting 125 million lives, or almost twice the population of France. Here is a man who's brilliance has not only been passed on to many other people but also has possibly innfluenced dozens of countries in the future. Instead of just being a scientist (which already holds much importance) he is taking his smarts and working with the health of the world. Hopefully he will be one of the many that make lasting impacts in the world ahead of us. He could be one of the solutions.

"I love that you've brought this to attention. An extensive database of uncommon but resistant and hardy plants/foods could be developed and organized by climate. Ease of growth and processing should also be taken in to account. I will try to…"

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development.The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
