A crash course in changing the world.
The sheath and handle are both made from a bamboo shaft held with iron rings for support and structural strength. The handle is filled with resin both to hold the blade and for support, and then pressure clamped with extra iron rings and silicone caulk on the ends, since the blade kept flying off sometimes. The resin inside the handle also works great as counterbalance, and the sword actually has very good handling as a result.
The wh*** exterior is covered with black electrical tape for extra structural support of the bamboo shafts, for better grip and, why not, also for looks.
The blade is made from a construction-grade laminated steel bar, filed to give it shape and an "edge". The edge is mostly for looks, as the sword is actually quite blunt. It took quite a while to file the steel into the desired shape, specially at the tip, and I had to go through a couple metal files to get it done. The end result was quite satisfactory, however.
The wh*** blade is exactly 22.8 inches or 58 centimeters, and since it was done for training purposes, it is also intentionally heavier than that of a real katana.
As mentioned before, this was made for actual training, and as you can see in the picture below, the blade already has indents and damage from being actually used. I also have a scar between my right ring and middle knuckles as a result from said training. So, as the saying goes, don't try this at home unless you are trained to do so.
The only thing I didn't get to redo for this post in terms of the exterior was covering the handle with cloth tape. Mostly because I don't have any at the moment.
If I get my hands on some, I will then post an update to show how it is supposed to look 100% finished.
