Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

I'd like to start off by admitting something. I have never actively worked toward a local or global cause. I've never volunteered, funded, or raised awareness for a social concern, locally or globally. That's not to say I've never wanted to support a cause, but in my experience, whenever I've been approached by an activist for a cause that I support, while they are enthusiastic about my support, their end goal always seems to be my money. As a student, this is always a problem, because money is something I never seem to have.

My friend posted a link to Evoke on Facebook, and it struck an interest. A cause I agree with that wasn't asking for money, but for ideas? As an artist, Ideas are something I can easily spare. This is exactly why the secret to innovation stating that what you have matters more than what you lack is one that particularly struck me.

It got me thinking. What is it that I have that I can contribute? First off, I already established that I have ideas, that's easy, but what else? I have my art. I'm nowhere near famous, I've never had a gallery show, but that's never stopped me from producing art. I have the internet, and, more importantly, I have a relatively popular internet persona with anywhere between 100 to a few thousand readers, depending on the day and topic of a blog post. I also have friends who could advertise these posts on their website as well, and easily increase the audience to tens of thousands.

Now that I've figured out what I have, the social innovation is figuring out what I can do with it.I know I can bring awareness to any problem, the internet makes that easier now than it ever was ten or twenty years ago, but that's not innovative, so what can I do? That's what I'm trying to figure out. I'd like to form a team, meet up with people and form ideas. If anyone reading this is in the Chicago area and would like to work together, brainstorm on projects, and come up with ideas, I'd be more than willing to.

First of all: Welcome to EVOKE! We are still at week 1 of 10 here, so you can still follow us for the entire journey.

Thanks for posting this, and for being so transparent about your thoughts and your reflection here.

Local collaboration with people in or around Chicago is a good idea. I am not quite sure if it is possible to search for members based on location, but there should be ways to hack this.

Artists are always important parts of an ecosystem, also on a site like EVOKE. There are already some art-related projects out there on the site, and you could add to them, or create your own meme on the site.

EVOKE currently has 8k+ members spread around the world. Some of us are very vocal, others are quiet. Some of us have years or decades of voluntary work behind us, others are totally new to it.

Good luck, and feel free to ask us other EVOKE members any questions whenever you have them. I look forward to reading more from you

I love this. Being aware of ones own strengths is a great place to start, and one which I hope others will follow. It's actually refreshing to hear that you've not got extensive voluntary work experience - I'm much the same, though I've done a tiny bit of fundraising and helped out with donations where I can. EVOKE certainly seems to be somewhere you can make contributions to that go beyond money - so throw yourself into it if you can!

Thanks for sharing this with everyone, your honesty is very commendable. Also great that you are interested in collaborating with other EVOKE agents in Chicago. A good way to find out those in your area would be to add yourself to the official EVOKE Agents Map ,search for those agents and add them on as friends on the network so you can plan on meeting up. Goodluck with the missions and just as Raymond mentioned, feel free to discuss any concerns you might have on the network

@Yemisi: Hmm, seems like the data transfer from EVOKE to that agents map on http://evoke.redct.info/evoke_map/ is having a problem. There are quite a few dots on the map - we are more agents than that :) Visualization like this of EVOKE data is Crucial!

Yes Raymond, we definitely should be spotted all over the map. Because the map was recently just launched on the network, not that many agents are aware of it just yet but I'm hoping that by making mention of it and posting links to it in relevant places like I did here, this should help out. Feel free to spread the word guys!

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
