A crash course in changing the world.

A successful attempt - Wedomartani and the Green Pharmacy

I have discovered a very interestingcase study about a so called Green Pharmacy project in Indonesia on www.cbnrm.net. Wedomartani, a little village in Indonesia, has transformed itself into a productive area which produces herbs and plants for medical purposes to prevent social decline:

The initial situation of Wedomartani was gloomy: only 10% of the land was appropriate for rice cultivation. Contrary to this fact about 90% of the population was working in the agriculture sector what caused a very insufficient income for decent living. Due to its proximity to Jakarta, Wedomartani attracted developers and real estate agents who wanted to transform the region into a residential area for new comers. The people of Wedomartani didn´t supported this intention due to the point that it would have created a social and economic gap.
So a teacher of the Wedomartani School, who wanted to generate a new income source for his village, experimented and planted several species of medicinal plants in public lands. When he found that the medicinal plants (called TOGA) were suitable for the dry and sandy soil, he encouraged people from the village to plant herbs and medicinal plants their gardens or house yards for medical purposes.
Now Wedomartani has become greener, hundreds of species have been planted and people are healthier. Also representatives from an internationally known cosmetics and health food company have offered Wedomartani the possibility of buying TOGA as raw material. The income of the locals has risen, the area has become greener and people are now healthier. And through TOGA the value of land in Wedomartani has also improved.
In my opionion the most important lesson of this case is, that confronted with unpleasant conditions people are able to find a suitable solution against them. This case study in Wedomartani shows successfully the impacted of the so called organizational change: the community developed a fitting solution to preserve their village against social and economic problems and simultaneously improved their living conditions without help from outside.

Sadly, I haven´t found something in German or English about this report yet. But I have included another report published by the WORLD BANK GROUP about the Indonesian Island Jakarta and it development:

"I love that you've brought this to attention. An extensive database of uncommon but resistant and hardy plants/foods could be developed and organized by climate. Ease of growth and processing should also be taken in to account. I will try to…"

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development.The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
