I decided to record three essential Australian Aboriginal religious
sites onto a wooden box that I made.
The central image that covers the top is of Uluru or Ayers Rock. Uluru
is believed to be a great snake that came down from the cosmos. "This is
Uluru's symbol of the Great Rainbow Snake ( a symbol of
fertility.) This is shaped like a horseshoe when set on its side with
the open end to the left. The lower part of the U undulates and is then
said to be filled with eggs. This represents males and females and is
looked upon as the father and mother of all life forms."
The motifs around the side depict the lost underground caves, which
according to legend where as large as modern day cities.
On the inside is a map that shows the locations of Uluru, The Blue
Mountains and Moon lake.
