A crash course in changing the world.
The internet article
http://www.unfpa.org/public/cache/offonce/home/news/pid/10804 of the UNFPA describes the reasons and possible solutions why still today more than 800 women and 20,000 children die every day caused by the lack of commodities in the situation of child birth. Also, cotraceptive methods to avoid unwanted pregnancy are treated in the article. Contraceptive methods like the condom are known but not always used, and there are still many topics to be acted in. Especially the three contraceptive methods female condom, hormonal implant and emergency contraception are underutilized in third world countries and therefore have to be made more popular. Furthermore, women should also have the right which contraceptive method to choose. This way the number of unwanted pregnancies could be reduced. Women would have a child only when they wanted to. The fact to allow women to make a more detailed and self-determined life planning would also lead to more independence for women and equality between women and men.
Furthermore, there is a need of commodities in third world countries especially in the situation of child birth. Today many childbeds still take place in a dirty and non-sterile environment. This often is caused by the lack of sanitary articles, medicine and access to medical establishments like hospitals. The aim is to ease the access to these commodities in order to improve the hygienic conditions during pregnancy and childbed. As I may cite the article: "In 14 African countries critical life-saving priority medicines for mothers and children are available in only 35 to 50 per cent of public and private facilities and drug stores." Therefore, a better availability of sanitary articles and medicines must be provided. This must be one of the major aims of the United Nations.
