Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

ACT 1: Social Innovator: Eben Bayer and Ecovative Design

The hero I'm choosing to shadow is Eben Bayer, CEO of Ecovative, a bio-materials company that is based out of New York. His company creates strong composite materials out of agricultural waste to proved an alternative to environmentally un-friendly materials such as Styrofoam and plastics. The energy used by his bio-materials is 1/10 of the energy used to create styrofoam. Not only that, the materials can be put in your home compost after it has served its purpose just to be re-used again. Its a material that keeps on giving.

I believe what Eben and his company are doing for the world is amazing. The threat of global warming is real. Even if it is happening at a slow pace we can start to do something about it now before its becomes unrepairable. For those of you that don't believe in global warming, the company still provides a product that can reduce the impact humans have on our environments so our future populations can enjoy nature as we do now.

More corporations should invest in the "Green Technologies" that these small start up companies are offering. Large corporations such as Wal-Mart and McDonald's could create a significant impact if they were to back some of these technologies. Eben is an example of one person that came up with an idea to change the world and decided to follow it through.

I'm following Eben on Twitter and sent him a friend request on Facebook. His company Ecovative also has a news section on its website ecovativedesign.com.

Brandon your post reminds me of an earlier post by Rendani, also an evoke agent http://www.urgentevoke.com/profiles/blogs/shadow-hereos who has chosen to shadow the founder of re-char, an organization that uses the concept of pyrolysis to convert biomass especially agricultural produce into bio-oil and as a result helps reduce Green house Gas effects. Global warming is indeed very real and it's great to learn about these people and organizations that are helping to fight the threat it poses. Thanks for sharing this, the knowledge share on EVOKE is just amazing. Here's a link to the company. http://www.re-char.com/about/ and I also encourage active collabaration with Rendani since you seem to have similar interest in this area. Great job with completing mission 1.

Hello Brandon! Can you please add a ACT1 tag to your post so other members of the network can find other members. And other heroes for that matter!

One of my favourite "green books" is Cradle-to-Cradle and if you had to reduce the book to three words, it would be "waste equals food". What I like about the work that you've described is that it becomes "food waste becomes food"!

Welcome to the network!

Thank you Yemisi and Mita! I will definitely have to give Cradle-to-Cradle a read as it sounds very interesting. Rendani's post on bio-char is also very interesting and informative.

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
