ACT 3: My Solar Cooker and The Eco Kettle

MY SOLAR COOKER

When I read this mission I was inspired to go out and build my very own solar cooker\boiler. I set about by searching the internet for solar cooker designs. Many came up, but I chose simple and efficient design using easily accessible materials i.e. wood, tinfoil and a rubber mat. My design was the box cooker. You can see the actual solar cooker I made above.

To test my solar cooker I decided to try and boil water. IT WORKED! my water reached 100 degrees celsius therefor it boiled. (obviously it can be used to cook food as well)

A household kettle is one of the most energy consuming appliances.

For the general consumer a practical way for them to save energy and the planet would be for each household to purchase a ECO KETTLE!

The Eco Kettle has been invented to specifically meet the challenge of reducing
the amount of energy wasted by overfilling your kettle. With the Eco Kettle,
you can fill the kettle to the brim and simply press the central button
in the lid to release a specific amount of water (1-to-8 cups worth) into
the boiling chamber. This easy, simple method of accurately ensuring that
you boil only the water that you need means that you can save the planet
while on your tea break!

Using the Eco Kettle will save electricity, it will save water, it will save you time (it comes to the boil really fast) and it will save you
money. And what's more, choosing the easy Eco-Kettle-way to conserving
energy while boiling water, helps minimize carbon dioxide emission levels.
It's an easy, simple and valuable choice to make.

In independent consumer trials, directed by the Energy Saving Trust, the ECO kettle used over 30% less energy than standard
kettles - Defra estimate that If everybody in the UK used an ECO Kettle,
we would save 1,270,000,000 KWh of electricity every
year!

The ECO Kettle was invented in the UK by Brian Hartley, and designed and developed for the marketplace by Product Creation Ltd. Since it's
launch in the UK in 2005, around 200,000 ECO Kettles have been sold in the UK and around the world, making estimated CO2 savings of over 1,000 tonnes! It is still the only kettle to be awarded the Energy Saving Trust's 'Recommended' mark, and contributes to the UK Government's Carbon Emmissions Reduction Target.

This is an amazing innovation and I encourage everyone to purchase one.

Practice conservation for the future generation.

Do you have the link to the site showing how to make your box cooker? My kids would love to try something like that.

Congratulations, it looks like a really easy design to share with the world!

Wow! This is inspiring!
Unfortunately, where I live you get a lot of snow and gloomy days. I'll have to wait for the sun to come out from the clouds :)
I guess in Africa, this obviously isn't a problem.
But I recently watched a tv show, and this guy was able to effectively use one slice(?) of log to boil water and cook food. With a saw he cut 3/4 through the log in a cross shape, stuffed some twigs in between, and lit it with a match. The inside of the log would burn, heat would rise, and you could put your kettle on top (nice flat surface) to boil. This is useful if your in the forest, and is resourceful compared to gathering loads of wood for a fire.
The low use of resources to make the eco-cooker is just amazing! Great work! :)

Good work. I think if you could pack sand or salt and sand around the inner base of the oven, it would retain heat longer, as well--or also incorporate a ceramic "fire pot" to hold the sand/salt pack, and then continue with your assembly... Have fun, good cooking!

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

It is 7'oclock, I was late home from work due to an assignment that i wanted to get ahead on. By the time I get home I am feeling extremley tired and I cannot be bothered to make a proper meal. I walk to the fridge and open it to see what there is for me to eat. All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Foods are vacc** sealded for easy…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
