Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

Here I am again, just to say that Josh replied very fast and he kindly agreed for his email to be published.
It's always a big pleasure to find people being as kind privately, as they appear publicly.

Josh' response:
Stefano,

Great to hear from you! EVOKE is a terrific idea, and it will be
inspiring to see the resulting collective action.

If you find you or others on missions need introductions or a sounding
board for ideas, don't hesitate to reach out.

Looking forward to keeping in touch,

Josh
And this was my email:
Dear Josh Nesbit,
my name is Stefano Cieri and I'm an Italian industrial designer, living and working in Rome. Since 2004 I research on sustainable development and since 2006 I specifically research on sustainable IT, both focusing on its infrastructure and its applications.

A few month ago I began following you on Twitter and published on my blog a couple of articles about Frontline SMS:Medic and Hope Phones, which I found more than brilliant initiatives.

The reason why I've choosen to write you today might sound a bit silly, but I consider it a sort of experiment for "conscious social networking"; please don't take this email for spam.

At the moment I'm a member of an online game, which is called EVOKE and is a "serious alternate reality game"; the aim of it is to stimulate discussion and sensitize people about urgent global issues, by completing several "missions".

The one I'm trying to accomplish right now, is to choose somebody as a social innovation role model, to "shadow" him, and to let people know what he's doing for the social good, by following his updates on the web.

I hope that this could someway help your initiatives, by further spreading more the knowledge of what you do, and I though it would be kind to let you know that.

If it might be of some interest, or you want me to add/correct something, here's the post where I introduced you as my "EVOKE hero":

Hope I didn't bother.

All the best,
Stefano

That's seriously pretty awesome! It's also great that you took the initiative in contacting him.
It's to see somebody who truly cares for what they do and it seems that he's one of those people. Also, I love your usage of the phrase "conscious social networking".

Also, for contacting him, Alchemy has decided to give you a few extra courage points for a job well done. Thanks, Stefano—great post! :)

Hi Nathaniel, thanks for your positive feedback. I do agree with you: Josh is someway consistent with his principles, caring for what he does as much as for the people shoing interest for his work.
Thanks for the phrase's appreciation :)
I do believe there's an incredibly high potential in the collective intelligence which emerges from the use of social networks, and the web generally speaking. And I think that finding ways to consciously address such phenomena, for the good of many, is a huge stimulating challenge.
I'm looking forward to what EVOKE will be able to do...

P.S.
thanks to Alchemy, Mladenka, Kevin, and Su for appreciation

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

It is 7'oclock, I was late home from work due to an assignment that i wanted to get ahead on. By the time I get home I am feeling extremley tired and I cannot be bothered to make a proper meal. I walk to the fridge and open it to see what there is for me to eat. All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
