I've never marched in a protest before, so this is a first.
Tomorrow I'll be on a bus load of Quadra Islanders driving 4 hours to be with Alexandra Morton in Victoria and march to the Parliament Buildings to bring awareness that the open-net fish farm industry must get out of the waters.
I hardly know what to pack for such an event except I'll be wearing my marching shoes and bring my loudest voice. Wish me luck.
http://www.salmonaresacred.org or check out Canadian news from British Columbia we should hit the parliament about 3-4 PM Pacific time.
UPDATE 20100511: It was one of the most amazing days of my life. I packed just the right things, the bus ride down was so much fun (we sang even!) and to march with my hero is a moment I'll never forget. I'm sure I wouldn't have spent the time I did to research what Alexandra was up to, read more on both sides of the story until I could form my own opinion, and it didn't take long for things to just not add up about the open-net fish farming going on in my waters around the corner from my beautiful island. Alexandra is off to Norway next week to again ask the Norwegian organization who own over 90% of the fish farms here to kindly get out of our waters (and on to land at the very least). I'll be following her blog, her facebook and any news I can get about what's happening. I've written emails to politicians, our paper and posted blogs. My eyes have been opened wide and I have playing this 'game' to thank for motivating me to take action, march, and stand up for change. It feels good and scary at the same time but it is my destiny, according to Alchemy. I look forward to my journey ahead.
