One thing that I learned is that "food security" is not just about having access to enough food to not go hungry. It is having access to nutritiously dense non-corn based - diverse and healthy food. As I noted in my
LEARN2 post - it can be expensive and not practical for lower income families to purchase such healthy foods. Therefore, in an effort to respond to what I see as an urgent local (Fort Collins, CO) food crisis I am going to join a local Community Supporting Agriculture (CSA) that will not only provide my family with a source of locally grown natural foods, but through my membership and the membership on others, the CSA will provide more than 40 local families that can't afford such nutritionally-dense foods with this same security.
