Years ago I went to a Business/Personal development course called
Money and You . I had a very interesting experience on that course but that is another story. One of the things I found out from this course is that there were graduates of the course that lived their lives "freewheeling". This meant that they didn't actively pursue recompense for the activities they carried out in the world. They had faith that if they provided enough to the world that the world would somehow provide enough for them. The course actively advised against such a radical step. It is something that needs to be eased into. It did get me thinking.
I have a number of people in my life now that I just do stuff for, trusting that somehow I will be recompensed further down the track.
For instance I have a friend who I initially made contact with as a client. He owns a restaurant. I do all his computer support. Build, host and maintain his website etc and in turn I get fed from time to time. He has also offered me a place to stay in one of his houses back in Europe any time I want to holiday there. Whether I ever get there one day or not, it is nice to know the offer is there.
I really don't know what the taxman has to say about such a loose arrangement. It would be interesting to see how they might police the act of doing a friend a favour.
