I´ve been working with my friend Salvador (who is a Sound Engineer) on this lamp since mission 3 (before I broke my right arm). I´m not at all good at building stuff, but Salvador Macias is brilliant at electronics. Sometimes I run in the evenings (before Evoke lol) so I need a lamp. This lamp is inspired in the Raramuri people of Mexico. They are ell known for their athletic prowess:
"The word for themselves, Rarámuri, means "runners on foot" or "those who run fast" intheir native tongue according to some early ethnographers like Norwegian Carl Lumholtz, though this interpretation has not been fully agreed upon. With widely dispersed settlements, these people developed a tradition of long-distance running at least 160km long through their homeland of rough canyon country, for intervillage communication and transportation. The long-distance running tradition also has ceremonial and competitive aspects. Often, male runners kick wooden balls as they run in "foot throwing" competitions, and females use a stick and hoop. The foot throwing races are relays where the balls are kicked by the runners and relayed to the next runner while teammates run ahead to the next relay point. These races can last anywhere from a few hours for a short race to a couple of days without a break."
The Raramuri Lamp produces electricity with movement, you just gotta shake it!!! kinetic human powered. So when Raramuris for entire days they can use this lamp:
We worked with handheld friction lamps and reverse engineer many of the mechanisms and parts. We are still
working on it, we still need to build a case for it but evoke is ending soon so most probably it will not be ready
before Evoke ends. So far we shake it for some 20 to 30 seconds and it gives enough light for 20 to 30
minutes!!!
