Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

I've noticed that a lot of people are sending mails to everyone on their friends lists simply to notify them that they've written a new blog post. It's quite annoying, but in a way I can see why people see this is necessary to spread the information in a blog post they've written.

E-mail notification seems a bit too messy to me, when you have a large number of friends. I've just checked my e-mail account and there are 287 mails in there from the last two days. I know you can switch notifications off on threads but, maybe it's not the most efficient way of dealing with this?

Please forgive my ignorance if there is already some form of this in place or in progress.

I'm wondering if it would be possible to have instead of notifications some kind of 'friends feed' as an area on the web site which would tell you in list or form format when a friend makes a new post or comments.

This sounds like a really interesting idea. I'll let our techy admin know about it and see what he says :) Unfortunately, the ning platform can be super restrictive at times.

Thank you :)

Even just setting the 'follow thread' default option to off would help enormously.

I also see the message system as annoying. I am working on a visual system for emailing friends that I think would help a great deal.

I like the idea. The platform does allow for many RSS feeds to be used as a way to keep track of people and their work, but I suspect that only a minority of people use RSS feed readers, like Google Reader.

One of the Evoke agents created a Yahoo Pipe to collect the work of one's friends here. But the result is another RSS feed, so that isn't quite what you had in mind. But it might be a good start!

Ooooh. Then is it possible to have a RSS feed reader for Evoke? I'm not too familiar with how they work myself.

What you seek already exists! Try this:

Step 1. Look on the right sidebar near the top. Under where is says "Inbox" look for the link that says "Settings". Go there and then click on the link in the left sidebar that says "email". Unclick the boxes for whatever email notifications you don't want to receive.

Step 2. Visit your EVOKE inbox whenever you have the time to check to see what wonderful things others have to offer you. :-)

Its a good idea, also because I can only pick up my emails on one computer (I know, so much to learn) which is not the one I am working on I find myself wondering if I have already responded or read a post somewhere else. Often I am reading or looking at things twice when once would have been enough.

Argh. Turil - I just found exactly what you're describing *laughing really hard right now*

But I would still really like to keep track of everything my friends have posted without having to rely on the e-mail system. Not everyone sends e-mails. Also, I log on, see people have given me points but can only guess at which posts/people they're coming from, before the last three per post. I'd like to have a simple update on this too so I can reciprocate.

You can subscribe to your friend's blogs, if you want. That's what I do for the one's I don't want to miss anything from. For the rest, I just periodically check their blogs when I have time.

*nods* great idea, thanks!

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
