I am definitely not artistically inclined and if we are drawing our hero avatars, mine would be a stick figure. So I took the link that
Amanda Jeffrey provided (
Hero Machine) and built my hero avatar there. Most of the pieces have meaning articulated as such:
The base of my character is a police officer. This is something I became and a role I believe I was meant to continue in helping people who cannot help themselves, defending people who have no defense, and caring about people who have gone astray, committing crimes when they know of no other way. (And once in a while, I get to take a really bad person off the street). The officer is represented by the ballistic vest, the tactical pants, the side arm, and the shield. Most people refer to it as a badge, but badges are fabric that belong on the shoulders. People forget that officers wear the shield as a symbol for the defense they provide, reminiscent of the knights of old.
The background represents where I grew up, near mountains in British Columbia.
The Maltese cross stands for the historical values that I try to adhere to.
The fire represents the passion I have for what I do and surrounds all of my ventures as it surrounds my avatar, but is in my control by having it in hand.
The wings represent my belief in my mother's mantra to me, that I can do anything, be anyone, and go anywhere that I want. They also represent my belief in the fantasy. Because our fantasies lead to interests which lead to curiosity which leads to discovery and innovation.
The name, I, Olympian is a combined word that has several meanings for me. The format is taken from the runic "Ek Vitki" meaning "I, Magician". The format represents my desire to know the corners of history reserved only for the determined. Olympian has two meanings, both to represent my history as a Greek, as well as to represent my desire to always do better and to achieve what seems impossible.
And for the detail oriented, you can see my ear piece, which represents my connection to technology in all my endeavors, though it is only one piece in all things.
The sungla****... well... I use to be a cop, and those are exactly the same type of sungla**** I wore. :-)
