A crash course in changing the world.
A Community managed Eco-tourism enterprise:
In short terms: A very good forrest area got ripped off by different people. A commitee was formed by local people to reforest that area again. Now the region is in a very good regenerated state again with animals(spotted rhinos, leopard, tiger, deers and more). At the same time, without destroying the forrest, the area is supporting people with fodder and even firewood. Based on the new nature experience, so called eco-tourism activities(canoeing, animal watching, nature walk) could be started to generate an income for the local people.
I think the most important lesson is following:
Local communities turn out to be good conservationist if they have the stake in ownership and benefits.
Of course, like Kasaona in the sample story said: If someone benefits from something - he values and protects it. So you want to make sure that local communities not only have awareness of the matter and motivation, they also need to profit from their actions and the positive change they make.
