I have a hero that I have previously known of however I really want to spread the word about him. He lives in Germany and hosts a podcast that many of you may even listen too. He makes music, loves hacking, and just plane loves communities and open source software.
I'm talking about
Fabian Scherschel, co-hoster of the Linux Outlaws podcast, who may not seem that great to most, however he has really changed my views on technology in the last year. He is a big proponent of open source software, and for my wh*** life I was previously on pretty much all proprietary software and devices and I really had no idea why people would go to something else.
Just recently I have completely revamped my computer to Linux and am using Ubuntu to type this very post. I really think that software that has been developed by a community is not only great because its free, however its the love and time that everyone spends on it; the social interaction you benefit from is far greater than the benefits you can get from proprietary software.
I listen to Fabian's podcast every week and I am totally on-board with his goal to push the world to a more open and community based technological society. It helps to push innovation, and ultimately helps to remove the o'so big barrier that is the digital divide.
So Fabsh, if you read this...
