Its near the beginning of my third year studying coral bleaching on one of the few remaining relatively healthy sections of the Great Barrier Reef. The data that the team I am part of has collected has been important in determining what climate change, pollution, overfishing, and aquaculture are doing to the natural ecosystems of the ocean. The day is drawing to a close, and I have just come back from a scuba diving mission, gladdened by the fact that as far as I could tell there were no new dead corals, and the number of crown-of-thorns seen and captured was less than usual.
Bit disappointed in dinner. Once again, no meat, and there hasn't been much fish and chips for ages. The drought in Australia has shown signs of clearing up, but some say harsher weather may now be permanent. The research post I'm in is powered, as are most small towns nowadays, by a solar system, with excess energy stored in a battery to provide power during the night.
