My suggestion is
Buckminster Fuller's "Critical Path". Its a testament to a life of
learning and invention based on the future sustainability of humanity.
After more than fifty years of research and 'design science' inventions
Fuller wrote this very relevant, concise and probing book about
pollution, political corruption, systemic economic collapse, population
and the environment.
The nice thing about this book is that not only does it spell out many of the dangers coming toward humanity, but
reveals actual solutions to these problems using current technology (as of 1980!!). I'll warn readers,
Buckminster Fuller was known for his eccentricity,
his style of writing has a different cadence to many other authors (he
won a poetry award from Harvard when submitting scientific research in
the 1940's).
