Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

But I don't need more heroes! ;-)

Ok, select someone to "shadow", someone to emulate, so that I'll get out of my comfort zone and into the learning zone ... without entering the "too much chaos" zone.

Three options here:

1. Cheapest, dirtiest one, is assume I'm old enough to be my own hero. After all, I've done quite a number of things myself. Not legal in this game? Won't learn a darn thing? Ok. Had to try! :-)

2. Look at my current set of followees. Vinay Gupta, Marcin Jakubowski, Smári McCarthy. The appropedians. The Akvo team. The OutOfPoverty folks. All sorts of Design folks (Amy Smith, Demotech.org, Afrigadget ...) ... But this would mean I'm following many, and not getting anything done, other than of course showing others some extremely interesting options. As I've just done. :-)

3. Third option: be creative, think out of the box, look for "someone else". How do I do that? First, my aim is this: look for someone who will teach me things I don't know but need to know. Second, maybe not "look for" but be found. Maybe I have been found already? Could it be that simple?

There's this Lady from Kenya. I asked a silly question regarding this game, and she jumped right in to help. Let me look at her profile ... hmm: http://www.urgentevoke.com/profile/ShakweiMbindyo ... eHealth? Wow. That's a group I didn't mention: frontlinesms.com folks. "I don't have to but can live on a dollar a day if necessary."

Honestly, not sure I'll have the energy to open up yet another venue for learning and trying to emulate.

I think I have failed this task for now, and will have to revisit.

OR, #2, my current set of followees, is my real deep answer and I really have to look no further. Opinions appreciated! :-)

Of course, just following Vinay and Marcin and Smari is hard enough. Cos each of them does a "map" of things all over the place. But that's another story.

I guess the main point is them being psychopaths, able to pursue weird visions that are extremely logical only in hindsight.

Do I want to be like that when I grow old? "Do you want to be like Dr House?" LOL

Good post. I think this site is designed to get people off their bottoms, out of their comfort zones, and into .... er .... something.

It's assumed before you start that you are currently firmly ensconced on your bottom in a zone of extreme comfort and need the World Bank Institute's help in achieving something. It also assumes that once you get into it 'we' will help the needy. After all, the needy don't need to be told about water crises and energy shortages. So this site isn't a resource for people who need resources, nor is it a tool for those who are already doing something.

On the other hand, it's not really clear what Evoke actually is. Perhaps it's just 'a thing' that someone has made and they are now waiting to see what people like us do with it. I doubt we'll save the world in ten weeks, but we might find a use for Evoke.

Stick around, maybe you won't learn a lot, but you might be reminded of something you had forgotten, or gain a new insight, or contribute something that enables someone else to make a change in their own life.

Well, yes. I only just started playing, so I'm not sure about what this is.

I'm looking forward to the tasks ahead. So far, looking at my own motivation and heroes is interesting in that it doesn't tell me much that's new to myself.

Can I jump and "save the world" straight ahead? Even inside the game, I mean.

I'll stick around.

Perhaps a way to approach this mission is to consider what obstacles you're currently running into that are preventing you from achieving your highest goals, and then look for someone who has managed to overcome those obstacles, to follow. Maybe you're already following them, and just need to focus your attention (and maybe even interview them) on that specific area of their success that you need to learn.

By the way, thanks so much for the link to Appropedia, it's very similar to the Evokation I'm working on that I'm calling the Human Powered School (aka the Whatworksipedia). It's good to see other people doing similar things. And I think my project will be a great complement to theirs. (Mine focuses on 7-13 year olds, and specifically aims to help people solve world problems using the power of the human body.

Hi Turil. Obstacles? Hm.
Internal, maybe fear of exploding or something?
External, dayjob and bank chains?
Nah, it's simpler than that. For 5 years I've been focused on something big and specific. Now I need to refocus. I'm still floating around the tree branches, helping others a bit, but not focused myself.
Great, great question, thank you!

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
