Censorship versus Freedom in Urgent Evoke

censorship is the absolute enemy of freedom. censorship is a weapon used by corrupt governments, cowardly corporations and conservative extremists to SILENCE dissent, restrict INFORMATION and enforce their 'morals'. simply take a look at the extreme on-going cases of Iran, North Korea, Saudi Arabia and China. even in places with laws protecting FREE SPEECH, the battle is on-going.

the arguments for censorship consists of sheltering people and children from 'inappropriate' media. those are merely a skewed rationale. what is the TRUTH? censorship takes away the RIGHTS and RESPONSIBILITIES of citizens to CHOOSE what is suitable for themselves and their children. censorship is about CONTROL.

the worst is something i call 'pre-emptive tyrannical' censorship; where a special select few choose what is 'suitable' for public viewing. in addition, this type of censorship has NO transparency and NO formal process to appeal.

sound familiar? Urgent Evoke moderators have been engaging in opaque, arbitrary censorship from the very beginning. posts and comments disappear without warning. when they occasionally grace someone with a reason, those given are ill-defined, vacillating and personal. hardly the actions of an ETHICAL organization that claims a focus on freedom and social activism.

those of us that have thought on these issues know what the TRUTH is. Urgent Evoke is still trying to CONTROL every aspect of UE. they seek to constrain the public image of Urgent Evoke to their own vision. using their stealth censorship, they are trying to silence voices of dissent and any material that does not fit with their 'safe, happy family' version of UE.

the real world can be an ugly place, sickened with murder, hatred and greed. this is WHY we are social activists. censorship does not make the bad things go away..

here's a short list of organizations that regularly fight against censorship:

http://www.aclu.org/ - American Civil Liberties Union (USA)
http://www.amnesty.org/ - Amnesty International
http://ccrjustice.org/ - Center for Constitutional Rights (USA)
http://en.rsf.org/ - Reporters Without Borders
http://www.eff.org/ - Electronic Frontier Foundation
http://www.ncac.org/ - National Coalition Against Censorship (USA)
http://www.fair.org/index.php - Fairness and Accuracy In Reporting
http://www.indexoncensorship.org/ - Index on Censorship (UK)
http://www.chillingeffects.org/ - Chilling Effects Clearinghouse
http://www.thefirstamendment.org/ - The First Amendment Project (USA)

addendum - @Michele Baron has summed up everything i have been trying to say better than i could.

remember, seek the TRUTH.

i repeat, as cottica said evoke is quite a demiocratic forum
that doesn't mean we cant discuss things here openly
transparency is a good thing

Just for the record, I want to point out the fact that while "Panamerica" was banned and the posts associated with that account were definitely censored by the administrators, the person who called him/herself Panamerica wasn't banned and is still very much participating in the game, under a new pseudonym. I'll let you all take a wild guess at who it is. :-)

and sneaking is a bad thing in my book which is what many here do

Koshy, it is the same thing on the level of human emotions and needs. Person A needs to have the freedom to express themselves but they are infringing on person B's need to live and work in a healthy environment.

Again, I agree that censorship is a violation of people's rights, but it's also a violation of people's rights to go into their personal space and dump crap on them that harms them.

If you don't like it, start your own space where people are welcome to express themselves fully, and invite us all, and enjoy the fact that you've solved your own problems, rather than relying on someone else to do it for you. :-)

turil you dont know anything about gaming
i had two dummy accounts
you make them so that if you dont back up or something you can get back in and back up
but your real contribution is gone
one of my accounts was suspended or banned
and the other one i deleted
the banning or suspension by ning - one is never quite sure which unless one sees the backend of ning which was revealed to us only once without showing us all the supended or banned parties or those who left - except to show i left of my own choice - and I came back becasue evoke let me which is true which is why i say they are also changing for the better - is about trolling or unparliamentary language or going off topic and can be argued about both ways
about your comment
sarah is panamerican's girl friend if she is the one you are implying something against
there is nothing against the rules against her participating
i wish you wouldnt make such innuendos
a person is to be judged by her or his larger contribution to the game and not by such issues as to who one hangs out with after evoke online time
Comment by A.V.Koshy on April 24, 2010 at 11:25am
when pan was banned his contribution which was major was done away with
and you cant deny that
if he backed up he at least has his posts
if not then not even that and then it's a real pity becasue at least one was of a very high standard - -one of the best psots i have ever seen in my life
for myself i hope he had dummy accounts and did

the idea of starting my own space and inviting you all is a good idea turil
and i can tell you that i wont care if you all fight like cats and dogs becasue i will try for total freedom
dont know if its possible but who knows one can try
evoke cant do that anyway
its an official tihng
and the admins are paid
so they will play by their rules
but the rules if written down and made clear right at the start make it easier
that cant be done cos hteyre only learning
in playing this game they are finding what can happen
maybe next time around it will be diffrent
i must admit they are learning
if they had brough pan back earlier they would have silenced everyone cos he would still have had a chance to play the game
and maybe who kmos even win
now its too late for that
that is a big loss
i hope sarah wins to make up for it
meanwhile turil please join evoke4ever so you can see if its better or not
last thing iwant to say is please understand that i am not being rancorous just laying the facts before you

Koshy, I did join Evoke Forever. It's not offering me anything I need right now, though. But thanks.

Communication is always precieved as welcome when everyone agrees. That is the issue. We don't all agree on what healthy and what is not on a universal scale. The honesty what is best for communication varies depending on the worldview you are using. The problem is that in your post you indicate a removal of restrictions based on age. This opens children up to a myriad of ideas that are toxic to them. Have you interacted with a 5 year old who has has consumed over 500 hours of pornography? What do you do with a 10 year old who was exposed to mass amounts of nihilism and they are no longer motivated or interested in life? Ideas have their place, in time, like all other things. Maturity has to be a point of engaging information.

Fourth of July on the Lake

This past weekend was the annual celebration at the lake house in Connecticut. It is amazing that the lake is still so clear and beautiful after all these years. The watershed association has done a wonderful job protecting these waters from the damaging effects of development. The wood grill was finally ready to cook on, so we didn't miss the propane tank fueled grill anymore. The food actually tasted fresher than in the past and was easy to keep fueled.Dad was very proud of the solar hybrid…See More

Stinging Nettle

In this blog post I will focus on a plant that is abundant in our nature, and which is immensely nutritious. It's of course the Stinging Nettle. Let's start with the chemical constituents of this plant:37 % Non-Nitrogen-Extracts19 - 29 % Ash9 - 21 % Fiber4 % Fat22 % ProteinOnce the leaves are drid, their protein content can reach an astounding 40 %, which is much higher than beef, which even under the best of circ**stances can never exceed 31 % protein. In addition the Stinging Nettle consists…See More

All of the out of date foodstuffs have been automaticaly thrown away by the fridge, they will be recycled tomorrow as animal feed or something. I see i have organic local eggs and some local cheese. Future

FutureToday is 2020/1/1. It is just like yesterday. The war is still continuing. It has started since 2010. In 2010, that year was a horrible year. Almost every energy ran out. Every country’s governments were crushed down at the same time. There were riots everywhere. All of the big company’s bosses were killed xdeadx in the riots. Troops fought each other everywhere. Food was bought up xawayx at once. There were no more food supplies in any shops. The economy was all crushed down. All the…See More

public servants

The exchange works directly for state and public workers and servants. It gives them credit in exchange for the amount of public work they contribute to the community. The more constructive they are based off a base rate the more credit they recieve.
