As the title implies, I am celebrating Chinese New Year somewhere in Southeast Asia in 2020. The festivities are under way and there is magic in the air. The pounding drums, the cool night air, and the paper lanterns lighting the streets create a spiritual atmosphere. All of the houses in this city are powered by the hydro-electric dam we finished building last year along the river. The futures market and commodities exchange we implemented to help farmers better understand the demand for certain crops has paid off, and now the well fed city dwellers (and even the farmers that generated enough income to venture into the city for this special occassion) are lost in a blissful trance as they watch the dragon dance. The propogation of cellular technology into Asia has allowed many of these people to have mobile phones, and many of them have their phones with them tonight. The performers doing to dragon dance are especially lucky; because, as they dance and move about, kinetic-electric generators in their phones are converting their rhythymic movement into a 'charge' for the cell phone batteries. I am happy to have taken part in bringing sustainable lifestyles to this wonderful culture.
