Choice: How can We Educate Buffalo Students on Resilience?

This week, I did a post on Resilience Education. I did some further digging about Buffalo’s resilience plan. It turns out there isn’t one, at least not one that is on the Web. Being one of the snow capitals of the
world, one would think we would have a system in place to educate others on
resilience. The closest I got was the Buffalo Emergency Management site, which
resilience should be a part of. (http://www.ci.buffalo.ny.us/Home/City_Departments/EMS)
Others cities have a separate sites for raising awareness in their communities,
such as London (http://www.londonprepared.gov.uk/) and San Francisco (http://www.spur.org/publications/library/report/theresilientcity_02...).
I like that the London sites features tips and specific instructors for how
individuals can prepare, and also how businesses can prepare for an emergency.

Now I raise the question to all those teachers out there, how can we educate students to think about resilience? Should it be a basic part of the curriculum?

I live just across the river from Detroit, so I'm aware of Buffalo and the snow it gets. I've been thinking about your question and I think that while snow admittedly can be dangerous, my feeling is that its the prolonged lack of electricity from an ice storm that I think can be the real worry. Did Buffalo lose power during the Ice Storm of 1998?
