Urgent Evoke

A crash course in changing the world.

This is an update from my previous blog post Clean Shop in Cape Town?.

I received the following e-mail from my water visionary ally, Trevor Mulaudzi:

My Dear Yumna

I read your letter and websites with interest. I need to talk to you urgently, so please send me your cell number and I phone you and we together with your NGO start The Clean Shop in the Western Cape.

Attached please find our Constitution and business plan on what we do in schools. Of course University
of Cape Town will be interested in being the Sanitation and Toilet Teaching Institution, probably the
first in the world.

Please lets talk, my cell is *** *** ****.

Trevor Mulaudzi

He called me today, and we have discussed how to take this further. The Clean Shop has never worked in Cape Town before, largely because there were no school contacts. (And because there's little to no money...) I've agreed to approach a number of schools around the city, to see if we can generate some enthusiasm. I've also asked him to what extent the idea is transferrable to health care facilities.

What I like most about this project is:

1) It brings together health and education - my two areas of interest

2) It is a financially-sustainable model

3) It is a year-long intervention, during which people who live and work in the community (usually parents) are encouraged and enabled to continue keeping the toilets clean

Does an EVOKATION have to be a new idea? Or can it be a repackaged, enhanced old one? I believe in recycling...!

This is excellent connection and collaboration! And certainly qualifies for an EVOKATION idea, I would say....
