A crash course in changing the world.
Food security in New Zealand is quite stable... if your parents have enough money.
Food securtiy is defined by the World Health Organisation to be “when all people at all times have access to sufficient, safe, nutritious food to maintain a healthy and active life”.
New Zealand has that available as long as you can afford it. Most adults are able to earn enough to be able to access sufficient, safe and nutritious food but that doesn't mean the few who cannot should be forgotten.
What about the children who rely on their parents for food - what if it is cheaper for them to by Coca Cola for their young child than milk? That doesn't sound right. And doesn't sound food secure either...
Thankfully though the government realises these points. In New Zealand we have Work and Income a service available to everyone that helps adults find available work and gives them government support for children if need be. I believe this is an innovative idea as this service does not just give money away it makes sure that people can find an income through work which will provide for them in the future. This support helps keep most New Zealand resisdents food secure - although there are still some who are not, showing that we still have a long way to go in terms of food security.
