Compatible Technologies International (CTI) is a Twin Cities based company that creates innovative, affordable, and appropriate devices to assist with post harvest food processing. These devices allow rural farmers to increase their yields, preserve their harvest, or process their crops to increase their price at the market. All of these go towards improving the economic situation of those farmers. As they increase their yields and are able to sell more at the markets, they can buy more land, send their children to school, purchase clean water or healthy food, and reinvest in their crops.
CTI is focused on maintaining the sustainability of their products by leveraging local markets, creating jobs instead of undercutting local workers. They also continually strive to reduce the costs of their device by designing them to be producible in country by local laborers. CTI's innovation has allowed them to produce ingenious solutions to problems that plague poor rural farmers.
I first came across CTI through a radio program that a friend linked me to. I have since started to work with them through a service learning project for a graduate class, and I am trying to work more closely with them in the near future.
